CJB 1 but the next day, while it was still very early, they took the spices they had prepared, went to the tomb, NIV 1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. CJB 2 and found the stone rolled away from the tomb! NIV 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, CJB 3 On entering, they discovered that the body of the Lord Yeshua was gone! They were NIV 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. CJB 4 standing there, not knowing what to think about it, when suddenly two men in daz zlingly bright clothing stood next to them. NIV 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. CJB 5 Terror-stricken, they bowed down with their faces to the ground. The two men said to them, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead? NIV 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? CJB 6 He is not here; he has been raised. Remember how he told you while he was still in the Galil, NIV 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: CJB 7 `The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be executed on a stake as a criminal, but on the third day be raised again'?" NIV 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” CJB 8 Then they remembered his words; NIV 8 Then they remembered his words. CJB 11 But the emissaries didn't believe them; in fact, they thought that what they said was utter nonsense! NIV 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. CJB 12 However, Kefa got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping down, he saw only the burial cloths and went home wondering what had happened. NIV 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. CJB 13 That same day, two of them were going toward a village about seven miles from Yerushalayim called Amma'us, NIV 13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. CJB 14 and they were talking with each other about all the things that had happened. NIV 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. CJB 18 and one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only person staying in Yerushalayim that doesn't know the things that have been going on there the last few days?" NIV 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” CJB 19 "What things?" he asked them. They said to him, "The things about Yeshua from Natzeret. He was a prophet and proved it by the things he did and said before God and all the people. NIV 19 “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. CJB 20 Our head cohanim and our leaders handed him over, so that he could be sentenced to death and executed on a stake as a criminal. NIV 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; CJB 21 And we had hoped that he would be the one to liberate Isra'el! Besides all that, today is the third day since these things happened; NIV 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. CJB 22 and this morning, some of the women astounded us. They were at the tomb early NIV 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning CJB 23 and couldn't find his body, so they came back; but they also reported that they had seen a vision of angels who say he's alive! NIV 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. CJB 24 Some of our friends went to the tomb and found it exactly as the women had said, but they didn't see him." NIV 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” CJB 25 He said to them, "Foolish people! So unwilling to put your trust in everything the prophets spoke! NIV 25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! CJB 26 Didn't the Messiah have to die like this before entering his glory?" NIV 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” CJB 27 Then, starting with Moshe and all the prophets, he explained to them the things that can be found throughout the Tanakh concerning himself. NIV 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. CJB 28 They approached the village where they were going. He made as if he were going on farther; NIV 28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. CJB 29 but they held him back, saying, "Stay with us, for it's almost evening, and it's getting dark." So he went in to stay with them. NIV 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. CJB 30 As he was reclining with them at the table, he took the matzah, made the b'rakhah, broke it and handed it to them. NIV 30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. CJB 31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. But he became invisible to them. NIV 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. CJB 32 They said to each other, "Didn't our hearts burn inside us as he spoke to us on the road, opening up the Tanakh to us?" NIV 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” CJB 33 They got up at once, returned to Yerushalayim and found the Eleven gathered together with their friends, NIV 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together CJB 34 saying, "It's true! The Lord has risen! Shim`on saw him!" NIV 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” CJB 35 Then the two told what had happened on the road and how he had become known to them in the breaking of the matzah. NIV 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread. CJB 36 They were still talking about it when -- there he was, standing among them! NIV 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” CJB 37 Startled and terrified, they thought they were seeing a ghost. NIV 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. CJB 38 But he said to them, "Why are you so upset? Why are these doubts welling up inside you? NIV 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? CJB 39 Look at my hands and my feet -- it is I, myself! Touch me and see -- a ghost doesn't have flesh and bones, as you can see I do." NIV 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” CJB 40 As he said this, he showed them his hands and feet. NIV 40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. CJB 41 While they were still unable to believe it for joy and stood there dumb founded, he said to them, "Have you something here to eat?" NIV 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” CJB 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, NIV 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, CJB 43 which he took and ate in their presence. NIV 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence. CJB 44 Yeshua said to them, "This is what I meant when I was still with you and told you that everything written about me in the Torah of Moshe, the Prophets and the Psalms had to be fulfilled." NIV 44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” CJB 45 Then he opened their minds, so that they could understand the Tanakh, NIV 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. CJB 46 telling them, "Here is what it says: the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day; NIV 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, CJB 47 and in his name repentance leading to forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed to people from all nations, starting with Yerushalayim. NIV 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. CJB 48 You are witnesses of these things. NIV 48 You are witnesses of these things. CJB 49 Now I am sending forth upon you what my Father promised, so stay here in the city until you have been equipped with power from above." NIV 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” CJB 50 He led them out toward Beit-Anyah; then, raising his hands, he said a b'rakhah over them; NIV 50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. CJB 51 and as he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. NIV 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. CJB 52 They bowed in worship to him, then returned to Yerushalayim, overflowing with joy. NIV 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. CJB 53 And they spent all their time in the Temple courts, praising God. NIV 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
