1 E QUANDO furon giunti vicino a Gerusalemme, in Betfage, e Betania, presso al monte degli Ulivi, Gesù mandò due de’ suoi discepoli.

2 E disse loro: Andate nel castello ch’è dirimpetto a voi; e subito, come entrerete là, troverete un puledro d’asino attaccato, sopra il quale non montò mai alcuno; scioglietelo, e menatemelo.

3 E se alcuno vi dice: Perchè fate questo? dite: Il Signore ne ha bisogno. E subito lo manderà qua.

4 Essi adunque andarono, e trovarono il puledro attaccato di fuori ad una porta, presso ad un capo di strada, e lo sciolsero.

5 Ed alcuni di coloro ch’eran quivi presenti dissero loro: Che fate voi in isciogliere il puledro?

6 Ed essi dissero loro come Gesù avea ordinato. Ed essi li lasciarono andare.

7 Ed essi menarono il puledro a Gesù, e gettarono sopra quello le lor vesti; ed egli montò sopra esso.

8 E molti distendevano le lor vesti nella via, ed altri tagliavan de’ rami dagli alberi, e li distendevano nella via.

9 E coloro che andavan davanti, e coloro che venivan dietro, gridavano, dicendo: Osanna! Benedetto sia colui che viene nel nome del Signore!

10 Benedetto sia il regno di Davide, nostro padre, il quale viene nel nome del Signore. Osanna ne’ luoghi altissimi!

11 E Gesù, entrato in Gerusalemme, venne nel tempio; ed avendo riguardata ogni cosa attorno attorno, essendo già l’ora tarda, uscì verso Betania, co’ dodici.

12 ED il giorno seguente, quando furono usciti di Betania, egli ebbe fame.

13 E veduto di lontano un fico che avea delle foglie, andò a vedere se vi troverebbe cosa alcuna; ma, venuto a quello, non vi trovò nulla, se non delle foglie; perciocchè non era la stagion de’ fichi.

14 E Gesù prese a dire al fico: Niuno mangi mai più in perpetuo frutto da te. E i suoi discepoli l’udirono.

15 E vennero in Gerusalemme. E Gesù, entrato nel tempio, prese a cacciar fuori coloro che vendevano, e che comperavano nel tempio; e riversò le tavole dei cambiatori, e le sedie di coloro che vendevano i colombi.

16 E non permetteva che alcuno portasse alcun vaso attraverso al tempio.

17 Ed insegnava, dicendo loro: Non è egli scritto: La mia casa sarà chiamata: Casa d’orazione, per tutte le genti? ma voi ne avete fatta una spelonca di ladroni.

18 Or gli Scribi, e i principali sacerdoti udirono queste cose, e cercavano il modo di farlo morire; perchè lo temevano; perciocchè tutta la moltitudine era rapita in ammirazione della sua dottrina.

19 E quando fu sera, Gesù se ne uscì fuori della città.

20 E la mattina seguente, come essi passavano presso del fico, lo videro seccato fin dalle radici.

21 E Pietro, ricordatosi, gli disse: Maestro, ecco, il fico che tu maledicesti è seccato.

22 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Abbiate fede in Dio.

23 Perciocchè io vi dico in verità, che chi avrà detto a questo monte: Togliti di là, e gettati nel mare; e non avrà dubitato nel cuor suo, anzi avrà creduto che ciò ch’egli dice avverrà; ciò ch’egli avrà detto gli sarà fatto.

24 Perciò io vi dico: Tutte le cose che voi domanderete pregando, crediate che le riceverete, e voi le otterrete.

25 E quando vi presenterete per fare orazione, se avete qualche cosa contro ad alcuno, rimettetegliela; acciocchè il Padre vostro ch’è ne’ cieli vi rimetta anch’egli i vostri falli.

26 Ma, se voi non perdonate, il Padre vostro ch’è ne’ cieli non vi perdonerà i vostri falli.

27 POI vennero di nuovo in Gerusalemme; e mentre egli passeggiava per lo tempio, i principali sacerdoti, e gli Scribi, e gli anziani vennero a lui, e gli dissero:

28 Di quale autorità fai queste cose? e chi ti ha data cotesta autorità da far queste cose?

29 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Anch’io vi domanderò una cosa; rispondetemi adunque, ed io vi dirò di quale autorità io fo queste cose.

30 Il battesimo di Giovanni era egli dal cielo, o dagli uomini? rispondetemi.

31 Ed essi ragionavan tra loro, dicendo: Se diciamo: Dal cielo, egli dirà: Perchè dunque non gli credeste?

32 Ma se diciamo: Dagli uomini, noi temiamo il popolo perciocchè tutti tenevano che Giovanni era veramente profeta;

33 perciò, rispondendo, dissero a Gesù: Noi non sappiamo. E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Io ancora non vi dirò di quale autorità fo queste cose.

1 When they came near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples ahead of him.

2 He said to them, "Go into the village ahead of you. As you enter it, you will find a young donkey tied there. No one has ever sat on it. Untie it, and bring it.

3 If anyone asks you what you are doing, say that the Lord needs it. That person will send it here at once."

4 The disciples found the young donkey in the street. It was tied to the door of a house. As they were untying it,

5 some men standing there asked them, "Why are you untying that donkey?"

6 The disciples answered them as Jesus had told them. So the men let them go.

7 They brought the donkey to Jesus, put their coats on it, and he sat on it.

8 Many spread their coats on the road. Others cut leafy branches in the fields and spread them on the road.

9 Those who went ahead and those who followed him were shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!

10 Blessed is our ancestor David's kingdom that is coming! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

11 Jesus came into Jerusalem and went into the temple courtyard, where he looked around at everything. Since it was already late, he went out with the twelve apostles to Bethany.

12 The next day, when they left Bethany, Jesus became hungry.

13 In the distance he saw a fig tree with leaves. He went to see if he could find any figs on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves because it wasn't the season for figs.

14 Then he said to the tree, "No one will ever eat fruit from you again!" His disciples heard this.

15 When they came to Jerusalem, Jesus went into the temple courtyard and began to throw out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the moneychangers' tables and the chairs of those who sold pigeons.

16 He would not let anyone carry anything across the temple courtyard.

17 Then he taught them by saying, "Scripture says, 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations,' but you have turned it into a gathering place for thieves."

18 When the chief priests and scribes heard him, they looked for a way to kill him. They were afraid of him because he amazed all the crowds with his teaching.

19 (Every evening Jesus and his disciples would leave the city.)

20 While Jesus and his disciples were walking early in the morning, they saw that the fig tree had dried up.

21 Peter remembered [what Jesus had said], so he said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has dried up."

22 Jesus said to them, "Have faith in God!

23 I can guarantee this truth: This is what will be done for someone who doesn't doubt but believes what he says will happen: He can say to this mountain, 'Be uprooted and thrown into the sea,' and it will be done for him.

24 That's why I tell you to have faith that you have already received whatever you pray for, and it will be yours.

25 Whenever you pray, forgive anything you have against anyone. Then your Father in heaven will forgive your failures."

27 Jesus and his disciples returned to Jerusalem. As he was walking in the temple courtyard, the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders came to him.

28 They asked him, "What gives you the right to do these things? Who told you that you could do this?"

29 Jesus said to them, "I'll ask you a question. Answer me, and then I'll tell you why I have the right to do these things.

30 Did John's right to baptize come from heaven or from humans? Answer me!"

31 They discussed this among themselves. They said, "If we say, 'from heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'

32 But if we say, 'from humans,' [then what will happen]?" They were afraid of the people. All the people thought of John as a true prophet.

33 So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Jesus told them, "Then I won't tell you why I have the right to do these things."
