1 E QUANDO Gesù ebbe finiti questi ragionamenti, si dipartì di Galilea, e venne ne’ confini della Giudea, lungo il Giordano.

2 E molte turbe lo seguitarono, ed egli li sanò quivi.

3 E i Farisei si accostarono a lui, tentandolo, e dicendogli: È egli lecito all’uomo di mandar via la sua moglie per qualunque cagione?

4 Ed egli, rispondendo, disse loro: Non avete voi letto che Colui, che da principio fece ogni cosa, fece gli uomini maschio e femmina?

5 E disse: Perciò, l’uomo lascerà il padre e la madre, e si congiungerà con la sua moglie, e i due diverranno una stessa carne.

6 Talchè, non son più due, anzi una stessa carne; ciò dunque che Iddio ha congiunto l’uomo nol separi.

7 Essi gli dissero: Perchè dunque comandò Mosè che si desse la scritta del divorzio, e che così si mandasse via la moglie?

8 Egli disse loro: Ben vi permise Mosè, per la durezza de’ vostri cuori, di mandar via le vostre mogli; ma da principio non era così.

9 Or io vi dico che chiunque manda via la sua moglie, salvochè per cagion di fornicazione, e ne sposa un’altra, commette adulterio; ed altresì chi sposa colei che è mandata via commette adulterio.

10 I suoi discepoli gli dissero: Se così sta l’affare dell’uomo con la moglie, non è spediente maritarsi.

11 Ma egli disse loro: Non tutti son capaci di questa cosa che voi dite, ma sol coloro a cui è dato.

12 Perciocchè vi son degli eunuchi, i quali son nati così dal seno della madre; e vi son degli eunuchi, i quali sono stati fatti eunuchi dagli uomini; e vi son degli eunuchi, i quali si son fatti eunuchi loro stessi per lo regno de’ cieli. Chi può esser capace di queste cose, sialo.

13 ALLORA gli furono presentati dei piccoli fanciulli, acciocchè imponesse loro le mani, ed orasse; ma i discepoli sgridavano coloro che li presentavano.

14 Ma Gesù disse: Lasciate quei piccoli fanciulli, e non li divietate di venire a me; perciocchè di tali è il regno de’ cieli.

15 Ed imposte loro le mani, si partì di là.

16 ED ecco, un certo, accostatosi, gli disse: Maestro buono, che bene farò io per aver la vita eterna?

17 Ed egli gli disse: Perchè mi chiami buono? niuno è buono, se non un solo, cioè: Iddio. Ora, se tu vuoi entrar nella vita, osserva i comandamenti.

18 Colui gli disse: Quali? E Gesù disse: Questi: Non uccidere. Non commettere adulterio. Non rubare. Non dir falsa testimonianza.

19 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, ed ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso.

20 Quel giovane gli disse: Tutte queste cose ho osservate fin dalla mia giovanezza; che mi manca egli ancora?

21 Gesù gli disse: Se tu vuoi esser perfetto, va’, vendi ciò che tu hai, e donalo a’ poveri, e tu avrai un tesoro nel cielo; poi vieni, e seguitami.

22 Ma il giovane, udita quella parola, se ne andò contristato; perciocchè egli avea molte ricchezze.

23 E Gesù disse a’ suoi discepoli: Io vi dico in verità, che un ricco malagevolmente entrerà nel regno de’ cieli.

24 E da capo vi dico: Egli è più agevole che un cammello passi per la cruna di un ago, che un ricco entri nel regno di Dio.

25 E i suoi discepoli, udito ciò, sbigottirono forte, dicendo: Chi adunque può esser salvato?

26 E Gesù, riguardatili, disse loro: Questo è impossibile agli uomini, ma a Dio ogni cosa è possibile.

27 Allora Pietro, rispondendo, gli disse: Ecco, noi abbiamo abbandonato ogni cosa, e ti abbiam seguitato; che ne avremo dunque?

28 E Gesù disse loro: Io vi dico in verità, che nella nuova creazione, quando il Figliuol dell’uomo sederà sopra il trono della sua gloria, voi ancora che mi avete seguitato sederete sopra dodici troni, giudicando le dodici tribù d’Israele.

29 E chiunque avrà abbandonato casa, o fratelli, o sorelle, o padre, o madre, o moglie, o figliuoli, o possessioni, per lo mio nome, ne riceverà cento cotanti, ed erederà la vita eterna.

30 Ma molti primi saranno ultimi, e molti ultimi saranno primi.

1 When Jesus finished speaking, he left Galilee and traveled along the other side of the Jordan River to the territory of Judea.

2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

3 Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, "Can a man divorce his wife for any reason?"

4 Jesus answered, "Haven't you read that the Creator made them male and female in the beginning

5 and that he said, 'That's why a man will leave his father and mother and will remain united with his wife, and the two will be one'?

6 So they are no longer two but one. Therefore, don't let anyone separate what God has joined together."

7 The Pharisees asked him, "Why, then, did Moses order a man to give his wife a written notice to divorce her?"

8 Jesus answered them, "Moses allowed you to divorce your wives because you're heartless. It was never this way in the beginning.

9 I can guarantee that whoever divorces his wife for any reason other than her unfaithfulness is committing adultery if he marries another woman."

10 The disciples said to him, "If that is the only reason a man can use to divorce his wife, it's better not to get married."

11 He answered them, "Not everyone can do what you suggest. Only those who have that gift can.

12 For example, some men are celibate because they were born that way. Others are celibate because they were castrated. Still others have decided to be celibate because of the kingdom of heaven. If anyone can do what you've suggested, then he should do it."

13 Then some people brought little children to Jesus to have him bless them and pray for them. But the disciples told the people not to do that.

14 Jesus said, "Don't stop children from coming to me! Children like these are part of the kingdom of God."

15 After Jesus blessed them, he went away from there.

16 Then a man came to Jesus and said, "Teacher, what good deed should I do to gain eternal life?"

17 Jesus said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter into life, obey the commandments."

18 "Which commandments?" the man asked. Jesus said, "Never murder. Never commit adultery. Never steal. Never give false testimony.

19 Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as you love yourself."

20 The young man replied, "I have obeyed all these commandments. What else do I need to do?"

21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, sell what you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then follow me!"

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad because he owned a lot of property.

23 Jesus said to his disciples, "I can guarantee this truth: It will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.

24 I can guarantee again that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God."

25 He amazed his disciples more than ever when they heard this. "Then who can be saved?" they asked.

26 Jesus looked at them and said, "It is impossible for people [to save themselves], but everything is possible for God."

27 Then Peter replied to him, "Look, we've given up everything to follow you. What will we get out of it?"

28 Jesus said to them, "I can guarantee this truth: When the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne in the world to come, you, my followers, will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

29 And everyone who gave up homes, brothers or sisters, father, mother, children, or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.

30 However, many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
