Good News Translation GNT
1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
1
When Jesus came down from the hill, large crowds followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
2
Then a man suffering from a dreaded skin disease came to him, knelt down before him, and said, "Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean."
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying,I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
3
Jesus reached out and touched him. "I do want to," he answered. "Be clean!" At once the man was healed of his disease.
4 And Jesus saith unto him,See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
4
Then Jesus said to him, "Listen! Don't tell anyone, but go straight to the priest and let him examine you; then in order to prove to everyone that you are cured, offer the sacrifice that Moses ordered."
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
5
When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman officer met him and begged for help:
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
6
"Sir, my servant is sick in bed at home, unable to move and suffering terribly."
7 And Jesus saith unto him,I will come and heal him.
7
"I will go and make him well," Jesus said.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
8
"Oh no, sir," answered the officer. "I do not deserve to have you come into my house. Just give the order, and my servant will get well.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9
I, too, am a man under the authority of superior officers, and I have soldiers under me. I order this one, "Go!' and he goes; and I order that one, "Come!' and he comes; and I order my slave, "Do this!' and he does it."
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed,Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10
When Jesus heard this, he was surprised and said to the people following him, "I tell you, I have never found anyone in Israel with faith like this.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
11
I assure you that many will come from the east and the west and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
12
But those who should be in the Kingdom will be thrown out into the darkness, where they will cry and gnash their teeth."
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion,Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
13
Then Jesus said to the officer, "Go home, and what you believe will be done for you." And the officer's servant was healed that very moment.
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
14
Jesus went to Peter's home, and there he saw Peter's mother-in-law sick in bed with a fever.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
15
He touched her hand; the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
16
When evening came, people brought to Jesus many who had demons in them. Jesus drove out the evil spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
17
He did this to make come true what the prophet Isaiah had said, "He himself took our sickness and carried away our diseases."
18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
18
When Jesus noticed the crowd around him, he ordered his disciples to go to the other side of the lake.
19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
19
A teacher of the Law came to him. "Teacher," he said, "I am ready to go with you wherever you go."
20 And Jesus saith unto him,The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
20
Jesus answered him, "Foxes have holes, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lie down and rest."
21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
21
Another man, who was a disciple, said, "Sir, first let me go back and bury my father."
22 But Jesus said unto him,Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
22
"Follow me," Jesus answered, "and let the dead bury their own dead."
23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
23
Jesus got into a boat, and his disciples went with him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
24
Suddenly a fierce storm hit the lake, and the boat was in danger of sinking. But Jesus was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
25
The disciples went to him and woke him up. "Save us, Lord!" they said. "We are about to die!"
26 And he saith unto them,Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
26
"Why are you so frightened?" Jesus answered. "What little faith you have!" Then he got up and ordered the winds and the waves to stop, and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
27
Everyone was amazed. "What kind of man is this?" they said. "Even the winds and the waves obey him!"
28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
28
When Jesus came to the territory of Gadara on the other side of the lake, he was met by two men who came out of the burial caves there. These men had demons in them and were so fierce that no one dared travel on that road.
29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
29
At once they screamed, "What do you want with us, you Son of God? Have you come to punish us before the right time?"
30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
30
Not far away there was a large herd of pigs feeding.
31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
31
So the demons begged Jesus, "If you are going to drive us out, send us into that herd of pigs."
32 And he said unto them,Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
32
"Go," Jesus told them; so they left and went off into the pigs. The whole herd rushed down the side of the cliff into the lake and was drowned.
33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
33
The men who had been taking care of the pigs ran away and went into the town, where they told the whole story and what had happened to the men with the demons.
34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.
34
So everyone from the town went out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their territory.
