Numbers 10

HNV 1 The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying, NIV 1 The LORD said to Moses: HNV 2 Make you two trumpets of silver; of beaten work shall you make them: and you shall use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps. NIV 2 “Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out. HNV 3 When they shall blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the door of the tent of meeting. NIV 3 When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting. HNV 4 If they blow but one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Yisra'el, shall gather themselves to you. NIV 4 If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you. HNV 5 When you blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall take their journey. NIV 5 When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out. HNV 6 When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys. NIV 6 At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out. The blast will be the signal for setting out. HNV 7 But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm. NIV 7 To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the signal for setting out. HNV 8 The sons of Aharon, the Kohanim, shall blow the trumpets; and they shall be to you for a statute forever throughout your generations. NIV 8 “The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come. HNV 9 When you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets; and you shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. NIV 9 When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the LORD your God and rescued from your enemies. HNV 10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God. NIV 10 Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts—you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the LORD your God.” HNV 11 It happened in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tent of the testimony. NIV 11 On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year, the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle of the covenant law. HNV 12 The children of Yisra'el set forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran. NIV 12 Then the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai and traveled from place to place until the cloud came to rest in the Desert of Paran. HNV 13 They first took their journey according to the mitzvah of the LORD by Moshe. NIV 13 They set out, this first time, at the LORD’s command through Moses. HNV 14 In the first [place] the standard of the camp of the children of Yehudah set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Nachshon the son of `Amminadav. NIV 14 The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard. Nahshon son of Amminadab was in command. HNV 15 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Yissakhar was Netan'el the son of Tzu`ar. NIV 17 Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out. HNV 18 The standard of the camp of Re'uven set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Elitzur the son of Shede'ur. NIV 18 The divisions of the camp of Reuben went next, under their standard. Elizur son of Shedeur was in command. HNV 19 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Shim`on was Shelumi'el the son of Tzurishaddai. NIV 19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon, HNV 20 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Elyasaf the son of De`u'el. NIV 20 and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad. HNV 21 The Kehati set forward, bearing the sanctuary: and [the others] did set up the tent against their coming. NIV 21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived. HNV 22 The standard of the camp of the children of Efrayim set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Elishama the son of `Ammihud. NIV 22 The divisions of the camp of Ephraim went next, under their standard. Elishama son of Ammihud was in command. HNV 23 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Menashsheh was Gamli'el the son of Pedatzur. NIV 23 Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh, HNV 24 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Binyamin was Avidan the son of Gid`oni. NIV 24 and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin. HNV 25 The standard of the camp of the children of Dan, which was the rearward of all the camps, set forward according to their hosts: and over his host was Achi`ezer the son of `Ammishaddai. NIV 25 Finally, as the rear guard for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was in command. HNV 26 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pag`i'el the son of `Okhran. NIV 26 Pagiel son of Okran was over the division of the tribe of Asher, HNV 27 Over the host of the tribe of the children of Naftali was Achira the son of `Enan. NIV 27 and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali. HNV 28 Thus were the travels of the children of Yisra'el according to their hosts; and they set forward. NIV 28 This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out. HNV 29 Moshe said to Hovav, the son of Re`u'el the Midyanite, Moshe' father-in-law, We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come you with us, and we will do you good; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Yisra'el. NIV 29 Now Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place about which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.” HNV 30 He said to him, I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives. NIV 30 He answered, “No, I will not go; I am going back to my own land and my own people.” HNV 31 He said, Don't leave us, please; because you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you shall be to us instead of eyes. NIV 31 But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. HNV 32 It shall be, if you go with us, yes, it shall be, that whatever good the LORD shall do to us, the same will we do to you. NIV 32 If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives us.” HNV 33 They set forward from the Mount of the LORD three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting-place for them. NIV 33 So they set out from the mountain of the LORD and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest. HNV 34 The cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp. NIV 34 The cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from the camp. NIV 35 Whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Rise up, LORD! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you.” HNV 36 When it rested, he said, Return, LORD, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Yisra'el. NIV 36 Whenever it came to rest, he said, “Return, LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel.”
