Numbers 2

NLT

CEB

1 Then the LORD gave these instructions to Moses and Aaron:
1 The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron:
2 “When the Israelites set up camp, each tribe will be assigned its own area. The tribal divisions will camp beneath their family banners on all four sides of the Tabernacle, but at some distance from it.
2 The Israelites will camp each under the banner with the symbol of their household. They will camp around the meeting tent some distance from it.
3 “The divisions of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun are to camp toward the sunrise on the east side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops: Tribe Leader Number Judah Nahshon son of Amminadab 74,600
3 On the east side toward the sunrise will be the banner of Judah's camp with its military units. The chief of the people of Judah is Nahshon, Amminadab's son.
4
4 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 74,600.
5 Issachar Nethanel son of Zuar 54,400
5 Those camping on one side of him are the tribe of Issachar. The chief of the people of Issachar is Nethanel, Zuar's son.
6
6 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 54,400.
7 Zebulun Eliab son of Helon 57,400
7 On the other side, the tribe of Zebulun: the chief of the people of Zebulun is Eliab, Helon's son.
8
8 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 57,400.
9 So the total of all the troops on Judah’s side of the camp is 186,400. These three tribes are to lead the way whenever the Israelites travel to a new campsite.
9 All those enlisted in Judah's camp with their military units are 186,400. They will march first.
10 “The divisions of Reuben, Simeon, and Gad are to camp on the south side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops: Tribe Leader Number Reuben Elizur son of Shedeur 46,500
10 On the south side will be the banner of Reuben's camp with its military units. The chief of the people of Reuben is Elizur, Shedeur's son.
11
11 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 46,500.
12 Simeon Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai 59,300
12 Those camping on one side of him are the tribe of Simeon. The chief of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel, Zurishaddai's son.
13
13 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 59,300.
14 Gad Eliasaph son of Deuel 45,650
14 On the other side, the tribe of Gad: the chief of the people of Gad is Eliasaph, Reuel's son.
15
15 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 45,650.
16 So the total of all the troops on Reuben’s side of the camp is 151,450. These three tribes will be second in line whenever the Israelites travel.
16 All those enlisted in Reuben's camp with their military units are 151,450. They will march second.
17 “Then the Tabernacle, carried by the Levites, will set out from the middle of the camp. All the tribes are to travel in the same order that they camp, each in position under the appropriate family banner.
17 The meeting tent and the Levites' camp will march in the center of the camps. They will march in the same order as they camp: each in position under his banner.
18 “The divisions of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin are to camp on the west side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops: Tribe Leader Number Ephraim Elishama son of Ammihud 40,500
18 On the west will be the banner of Ephraim's camp with its military units. The chief of the people of Ephraim is Elishama, Ammihud's son.
19
19 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 40,500.
20 Manasseh Gamaliel son of Pedahzur 32,200
20 On one side of him is the tribe of Manasseh. The chief of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel, Pedahzur's son.
21
21 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 32,200.
22 Benjamin Abidan son of Gideoni 35,400
22 On the other side, the tribe of Benjamin: the chief of the people of Benjamin is Abidan, Gideoni's son.
23
23 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 35,400.
24 So the total of all the troops on Ephraim’s side of the camp is 108,100. These three tribes will be third in line whenever the Israelites travel.
24 All those enlisted in Ephraim's camp with their military units are 108,100. They will march third.
25 “The divisions of Dan, Asher, and Naphtali are to camp on the north side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops: Tribe Leader Number Dan Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai 62,700
25 On the north will be the banner of Dan's camp with its military units. The chief of the people of Dan is Ahiezer, Ammishaddai's son.
26
26 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 62,700.
27 Asher Pagiel son of Ocran 41,500
27 Those camping on one side of him are the tribe of Asher. The chief of the people of Asher is Pagiel, Ochran's son.
28
28 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 41,500.
29 Naphtali Ahira son of Enan 53,400
29 On the other side, the tribe of Naphtali: the chief of the people of Naphtali is Ahira, Enan's son.
30
30 His military unit and those enlisted in it are 53,400.
31 So the total of all the troops on Dan’s side of the camp is 157,600. These three tribes will be last, marching under their banners whenever the Israelites travel.”
31 All those enlisted in the camp of Dan are 157,600. They will march last under their banners.
32 In summary, the troops of Israel listed by their families totaled 603,550.
32 These are the enlisted Israelites by their households. The total enlisted in the camps with their military units is 603,550.
33 But as the LORD had commanded, the Levites were not included in this registration.
33 But the Levites weren't enlisted among the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
34 So the people of Israel did everything as the LORD had commanded Moses. Each clan and family set up camp and marched under their banners exactly as the LORD had instructed them.
34 The Israelites did everything exactly as the LORD had commanded Moses: they camped under their banners and they marched by their clans and by their households.
