Numbers 24

HNV 1 When Bil`am saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Yisra'el, he didn't go, as at the other times, to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. NIV 1 Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not resort to divination as at other times, but turned his face toward the wilderness. HNV 2 Bil`am lifted up his eyes, and he saw Yisra'el dwelling according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came on him. NIV 2 When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came on him HNV 3 He took up his parable, and said, Bil`am the son of Be'or says, The man whose eye was closed says; NIV 3 and he spoke his message: “The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly, HNV 4 He says, who hears the words of God, Who sees the vision of Shaddai, Falling down, and having his eyes open: NIV 4 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty,who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened: HNV 5 How goodly are your tents, Ya`akov, Your tents, Yisra'el! NIV 5 “How beautiful are your tents, Jacob, your dwelling places, Israel! HNV 6 As valleys are they spread forth, As gardens by the river-side, As lign-aloes which the LORD has planted, As cedar trees beside the waters. NIV 6 “Like valleys they spread out, like gardens beside a river, like aloes planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters. HNV 7 Water shall flow from his buckets, His seed shall be in many waters, His king shall be higher than Agag, His kingdom shall be exalted. NIV 7 Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water. “Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted. HNV 8 God brings him forth out of Mitzrayim; He has as it were the strength of the wild-ox: He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, Shall break their bones in pieces, Smite [them] through with his arrows. NIV 8 “God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox. They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces; with their arrows they pierce them. HNV 9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, As a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Blessed be everyone who blesses you, Cursed be everyone who curses you. NIV 9 Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse them? “May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!” HNV 10 Balak's anger was kindled against Bil`am, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Bil`am, I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times. NIV 10 Then Balak’s anger burned against Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to him, “I summoned you to curse my enemies, but you have blessed them these three times. HNV 11 Therefore now flee you to your place: I thought to promote you to great honor; but, behold, the LORD has kept you back from honor. NIV 11 Now leave at once and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded.” HNV 12 Bil`am said to Balak, Didn't I also tell your messengers who you sent to me, saying, NIV 12 Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not tell the messengers you sent me, HNV 13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can't go beyond the word of the LORD, to do either good or bad of my own mind; what the LORD speaks, that will I speak? NIV 13 ‘Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD—and I must say only what the LORD says’? HNV 14 Now, behold, I go to my people: come, [and] I will advertise you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days. NIV 14 Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in days to come.” HNV 15 He took up his parable, and said, Bil`am the son of Be'or says, The man whose eye was closed says; NIV 15 Then he spoke his message: “The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly, HNV 16 He says, who hears the words of God, Knows the knowledge of Ha`Elyon, Who sees the vision of Shaddai, Falling down, and having his eyes open: NIV 16 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened: HNV 17 I see him, but not now; I see him, but not near: There shall come forth a star out of Ya`akov, A scepter shall rise out of Yisra'el, Shall strike through the corners of Mo'av, Break down all the sons of tumult. NIV 17 “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth. HNV 18 Edom shall be a possession, Se`ir also shall be a possession, [who were] his enemies; While Yisra'el does valiantly. NIV 18 Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong. HNV 19 Out of Ya`akov shall one have dominion, Shall destroy the remnant from the city. NIV 19 A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.” HNV 20 He looked at `Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, `Amalek was the first of the nations; But his latter end shall come to destruction. NIV 20 Then Balaam saw Amalek and spoke his message: “Amalek was first among the nations, but their end will be utter destruction.” HNV 21 He looked at the Keni, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is your dwelling-place, Your nest is set in the rock. NIV 21 Then he saw the Kenites and spoke his message: “Your dwelling place is secure, your nest is set in a rock; HNV 22 Nevertheless Kayin shall be wasted, Until Ashshur shall carry you away captive. NIV 22 yet you Kenites will be destroyed when Ashur takes you captive.” HNV 23 He took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God does this? NIV 23 Then he spoke his message: “Alas! Who can live when God does this? HNV 24 But ships [shall come] from the coast of Kittim, They shall afflict Ashshur, and shall afflict `Ever; He also shall come to destruction. NIV 24 Ships will come from the shores of Cyprus; they will subdue Ashur and Eber, but they too will come to ruin.” HNV 25 Bil`am rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way. NIV 25 Then Balaam got up and returned home, and Balak went his own way.
