1 L’Eterno parlò ancora a Mosè e ad Aaronne, dicendo:

2 "Fate il conto dei figliuoli di Kehath, tra i figliuoli di Levi, secondo le loro famiglie, secondo le case dei loro padri,

3 dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni, di tutti quelli che possono assumere un ufficio per far l’opera nella tenda di convegno.

4 Questo è il servizio che i figliuoli di Kehath avranno a fare nella tenda di convegno, e che concerne le cose santissime.

5 Quando il campo si moverà, Aaronne e i suoi figliuoli verranno a smontare il velo di separazione, e copriranno con esso l’arca della testimonianza;

6 poi porranno sull’arca una coperta di pelli di delfino, vi stenderanno sopra un panno tutto di stoffa violacea e vi metteranno al posto le stanghe.

7 Poi stenderanno un panno violaceo sulla tavola dei pani della presentazione, e vi metteranno su i piatti, le coppe, i bacini, i calici per le libazioni; e vi sarà su anche il pane perpetuo;

8 e su queste cose stenderanno un panno scarlatto, e sopra questo una coperta di pelli di delfino, e metteranno le stanghe alla tavola.

9 Poi prenderanno un panno violaceo, col quale copriranno il candelabro, le sue lampade, le sue forbici, i suoi smoccolatoi e tutti i suoi vasi dell’olio destinati al servizio del candelabro;

10 metteranno il candelabro con tutti i suoi utensili in una coperta di pelli di delfino, e lo porranno sopra un paio di stanghe.

11 Poi stenderanno sull’altare d’oro un panno violaceo, e sopra questo una coperta di pelli di delfino; e metteranno le stanghe all’altare.

12 E prenderanno tutti gli utensili di cui si fa uso per il servizio nel santuario, li metteranno in un panno violaceo, li avvolgeranno in una coperta di pelli di delfino e li porranno sopra un paio di stanghe.

13 Poi toglieranno le ceneri dall’altare, e stenderanno sull’altare un panno scarlatto;

14 vi metteranno su tutti gli utensili destinati al suo servizio, i bracieri, i forchettoni, le palette, i bacini, tutti gli utensili dell’altare e vi stenderanno su una coperta li pelli di delfino; poi porranno le stanghe all’altare.

15 E dopo che Aaronne e i suoi figliuoli avranno finito di coprire il santuario e tutti gli arredi del santuario, quando il campo si moverà, i figliuoli di Kehath verranno per portar quelle cose; ma non toccheranno le cose sante, che non abbiano a morire. Queste sono le incombenze de’ figliuoli di Kehath nella tenda di convegno.

16 Ed Eleazar, figliuolo del sacerdote Aaronne, avrà l’incarico dell’olio per il candelabro, del profumo fragrante, dell’offerta perpetua e dell’olio dell’unzione, e l’incarico di tutto il tabernacolo e di tutto ciò che contiene, del santuario e de’ suoi arredi".

17 Poi l’Eterno parlò a Mosè e ad Aaronne dicendo:

18 "Badate che la tribù delle famiglie dei Kehathiti non abbia ad essere sterminata di fra i Leviti;

19 ma fate questo per loro, affinché vivano e non muoiano quando si accosteranno al luogo santissimo: Aaronne e i suoi figliuoli vengano e assegnino a ciascun d’essi il proprio servizio e il proprio incarico.

20 E non entrino quelli a guardare anche per un istante le cose sante, onde non muoiano".

21 L’Eterno parlò ancora a Mosè, dicendo:

22 "Fa’ il conto anche dei figliuoli di Gherson, secondo le case dei loro padri, secondo le loro famiglie.

23 Farai il censimento, dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni, di tutti quelli che possono assumere un ufficio per far l’opera nella tenda di convegno.

24 Questo è il servizio delle famiglie dei Ghersoniti: quel che debbono fare e quello che debbono portare:

25 porteranno i teli del tabernacolo e la tenda di convegno, la sua coperta, la coperta di pelli di delfino che v’è sopra, e la portiera all’ingresso della tenda di convegno;

26 le cortine del cortile con la portiera dell’ingresso del cortile, cortine che stanno tutt’intorno al tabernacolo e all’altare, i loro cordami e tutti gli utensili destinati al loro servizio; faranno tutto il servizio che si riferisce queste cose.

27 Tutto il servizio dei figliuoli dei Ghersoniti sarà sotto gli ordini di Aaronne e dei suoi figliuoli per tutto quello che dovranno portare e per tutto quello che dovranno fare; voi affiderete alla loro cura tutto quello che debbon portare.

28 Tale è il servizio delle famiglie dei figliuoli del Ghersoniti nella tenda di convegno; e l’incarico loro sarà eseguito agli ordini di Ithamar figliuolo del sacerdote Aaronne.

29 Farai il censimento dei figliuoli di Merari secondo le loro famiglie, secondo le case dei loro padri;

30 farai il censimento, dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni, di tutti quelli che possono assumere un ufficio per far l’opera nella tenda di convegno.

31 Questo è quanto è affidato alle loro cure e quello che debbono portare, in conformità di tutto il loro servizio nella tenda di convegno: le assi del tabernacolo, le sue traverse, le sue colonne, le sue basi;

32 le colonne che sono intorno al cortile, le loro basi, i loro piuoli, i loro cordami, tutti i loro utensili e tutto il servizio che vi si riferisce. Farete l’inventario nominativo degli oggetti affidati alle loro cure e ch’essi dovranno portare.

33 Tale è il servizio delle famiglie dei figliuoli di Merari, tutto il loro servizio nella tenda di convegno, sotto ali ordini di Ithamar, figliuolo del sacerdote Aaronne".

34 Mosè, Aaronne e i principi della raunanza fecero dunque il censimento dei figliuoli dei Kehathiti secondo le loro famiglie e secondo le case dei loro padri,

35 di tutti quelli che dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni potevano assumere un ufficio per far l’opera nella tenda di convegno.

36 E quelli di cui si fece il censimento secondo le loro famiglie, furono duemila settecentocinquanta.

37 Questi son quelli delle famiglie dei Kehathiti dei quali si fece il censimento: tutti quelli che esercitavano un qualche ufficio nella tenda di convegno; Mosè ed Aaronne ne fecero il censimento secondo l’ordine che l’Eterno avea dato per mezzo di Mosè.

38 I figliuoli di Gherson, di cui si fece il censimento secondo le loro famiglie e secondo le case dei loro padri,

39 dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni, tutti quelli che potevano assumere un ufficio per far l’opera nella tenda di convegno,

40 quelli di cui si fece il censimento secondo le loro famiglie, secondo le case dei loro padri, furono duemila seicentotrenta.

41 Questi son quelli delle famiglie dei figliuoli di Gherson, di cui si fece il censimento: tutti quelli che esercitavano un qualche ufficio nella tenda di convegno; Mosè ed Aaronne ne fecero il censimento secondo l’ordine dell’Eterno.

42 Quelli delle famiglie dei figliuoli di Merari dei quali si fece il censimento secondo le loro famiglie, secondo le famiglie dei loro padri,

43 dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni, tutti quelli che potevano assumere un ufficio per far l’opera nella tenda di convegno,

44 quelli di cui si fece il censimento secondo le loro famiglie, furono tremila duecento.

45 Questi son quelli delle famiglie dei figliuoli di Merari, di cui si fece il censimento; Mosè ed Aaronne ne fecero il censimento secondo l’ordine che l’Eterno avea dato per mezzo di Mosè.

46 Tutti i Leviti dei quali Mosè, Aaronne e i principi d’Israele fecero il censimento secondo le loro famiglie e secondo le case dei loro padri,

47 dall’età di trent’anni in su fino all’età di cinquant’anni, tutti quelli che potevano assumere l’ufficio di servitori e l’ufficio di portatori nella tenda di convegno,

48 tutti quelli di cui si fece il censimento, furono ottomila cinquecento ottanta.

49 Ne fu fatto il censimento secondo l’ordine che l’Eterno avea dato per mezzo di Mosè, assegnando a ciascuno il servizio che dovea fare e quello che dovea portare. Così ne fu fatto il censimento come l’Eterno avea ordinato a Mosè.

1 And Hashem spoke unto Moshe and unto Aharon, saying,

2 Take the census of the Bnei Kehat from among the Bnei Levi, after their mishpekhot, by the bais of their avot,

3 From shloshim shanah (thirty years old) and upward even until chamishim shanah (fifty years old), all that enter into the tz’va (holy militia of Hashem) to do the melachah (work) in the Ohel Mo’ed.

4 This shall be the Avodat Bnei Kehat in the Ohel Mo’ed: kodesh hakodashim (the most holy things);

5 And when the machaneh (camp) setteth forward, Aharon shall come, and his banim, and they shall take down the Parochet (veil) of the screen, and cover the Aron HaEdut (Ark of the Testimony) with it;

6 And shall put thereon the tachash hide covering, and shall spread over it a cloth wholly sky-blue violet, and shall put in the carrying poles thereof.

7 And upon the Shulchan HaPanim they shall spread a cloth of sky-blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the incense spoons, and the offering bowls, and kesot hanesekh (pitchers of the drink offering); and Lechem HaTamid (Perpetual Bread) shall be thereon;

8 And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet, and cover the same with a tachash hide covering, and shall put in the poles thereof.

9 And they shall take a cloth of sky-blue, and cover the Menorat HaMa’ohr (Menorah of Illumination), and its nerot (lamps), and its tongs, and its trays, and all the klei shemen (oil vessels) thereof, wherewith they prepare it for [holy] service;

10 And they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a tachash hide covering, and shall put it upon the carrying frame.

11 And upon the Mizbach HaZahav they shall spread a cloth of sky-blue, and cover it a tachash hide covering, and shall put in place the poles thereof;

12 And they shall take all the Klei HaSharet (Utensils of Ministry), wherewith they minister in HaKodesh, and put them in a cloth of skyblue, and cover them with a tachash hide covering, and shall put them on the carrying frame;

13 And they shall take away the ashes from the Mizbe’ach, and spread a purple cloth thereon:

14 And they shall put upon it all the utensils thereof, wherewith they minister upon it, even the fire pans, the meathooks, and the shovels, and the basins, all the Klei HaMizbe’ach; and they shall spread upon it a tachash hide covering, and put in place its poles.

15 And when Aharon and his banim have made an end of covering HaKodesh, and all the Klei HaKodesh, as the machaneh (camp) is to set forward, after that, the Bnei Kehat shall come to bear it; but they shall not touch any kodesh, lest they die. These things are the massa (burden) of the Bnei Kehat in the Ohel Mo’ed.

16 And to the pekuddat (oversight, office) of Eleazar ben Aharon HaKohen pertaineth the Shemen HaMa’ohr (Oil of Illumination), and the incense spices, and the Minchat HaTamid (Continual Grain Offering), and the Shemen HaMishchah (Anointing Oil), and the Pekuddat Kol HaMishkan, and of all that therein is, in HaKodesh, and in the vessels thereof.

17 And Hashem spoke unto Moshe and unto Aharon saying,

18 Cut ye not off the shevet (tribe) of the mishpekhot of the Kehati from among the Levi’im;

19 But this do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto kodesh hakodashim (the most holy things): Aharon and his banim shall go in, and appoint them every one to his avodah (service, ministry) and to his massa (burden);

20 But they shall not go in to look for a single instant at hakodesh, lest they die.

21 And Hashem spoke unto Moshe, saying,

22 Take also the census of the Bnei Gershon, throughout the bais avot of them, by their mishpekhot;

23 From shloshim shanah (thirty years old) and upward until chamishim shanah (fifty years old) shalt thou number them; all that enter to serve the tz’va (holy militia service of Hashem), to labor in the Avodah in the Ohel Mo’ed.

24 This is the Avodat Mishpekhot Gershoni, as relates to service and massa (burden):

25 And they shall bear the curtains of the Mishkan, and the Ohel Mo’ed, its covering, and the tachash hide covering that is over the top of it, and the screen for the entrance of the Ohel Mo’ed,

26 And the hangings of the khatzer (court), and the hanging for the entrance of the sha’ar (gate) of the khatzer (court), which is around the Mishkan and around the Mizbe’ach, and their cords, and all the Klei Avodah (Utensils of Service, Ministry) of them, and all that is done for them; so shall they serve.

27 At the appointment of Aharon and his banim shall be all the Avodat Bnei Gershoni, in all their massa (burdens), and in all their avodah (service); and ye shall appoint unto them in mishmeret (guard duty responsibility) for all their massa (burdens).

28 This is the Avodat Mishpekhot Bnei Gershoni in the Ohel Mo’ed; and misheret (guard duty responsibility) shall be under the direction of Itamar ben Aharon HaKohen.

29 As for the Bnei Merari, thou shalt number them after their mishpekhot, by the bais of their avot;

30 From shloshim shanah (thirty years old) and upward even until chamishim shanah (fifty years old) shalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the tz’va (holy militia service of Hashem), to do the work of the Avodat Ohel Mo’ed.

31 And this is their mishmeret (guard) massa (burden), according to all their Avodah (Service, Ministry) in the Ohel Mo’ed; the frames of the Mishkan, and the crossbars thereof, and the posts thereof, and bases thereof,

32 And the posts surrounding the khatzer, and their bases, and their tent pegs, and their cords, with all their implements, and with all their service; and by shmot (names) ye shall assign the klei mishmeret (vessels of duty) massa (burdens).

33 This is the Avodat Mishpekhot Bnei Merari, according to all their service, in the Ohel Mo’ed under the direction of Itamar ben Aharon HaKohen.

34 And Moshe and Aharon and the Nasi’ei HaEdah (Leaders of the Congregation) counted the Bnei HaKehati after their mishpekhot, and after the bais of their avot,

35 From shloshim shanah (thirty years old) and upward even until chamishim shanah (fifty years old) shalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the tz’va (holy militia service of Hashem), to do the work of the Avodah in the Ohel Mo’ed;

36 And those that were numbered of them by their mishpekhot were two thousand seven hundred and fifty.

37 These were they that were numbered of the mishpekhot HaKehati, all that might do service in the Ohel Mo’ed which Moshe and Aharon did number according to the command of Hashem by the hand of Moshe.

38 And those that were numbered of the Bnei Gershon, throughout their mishpekhot, and by the bais of their avot,

39 From shloshim shanah and upward even until chamishim shanah shalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the tz’va (holy militia service of Hashem), to do the work of the Avodah in the Ohel Mo’ed,

40 Even those that were numbered of them, throughout their mishpekhot, by the bais of their avot, were two thousand and six hundred and thirty.

41 These are they that were numbered of the Mishpekhot Bnei Gershon, of all that might do service in the Ohel Mo’ed whom Moshe and Aharon did number according to the command of Hashem.

42 And those that were numbered of the Mishpekhot Bnei Merari, throughout their mishpekhot, by the bais of their avot,

43 From shloshim shanah and upward even until chamishim shanah shalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the tz’va, to do the work of the Avodah in the Ohel Mo’ed,

44 Even those that were numbered of them by their mishpekhot, were three thousand and two hundred.

45 These be those that were numbered of the Mishpekhot Bnei Merari, whom Moshe and Aharon numbered according to the command of Hashem by the hand of Moshe.

46 All those that were numbered of the Levi’im, whom Moshe and Aharon and the Nasi’ei Yisroel numbered, by their mishpekhot, and by the bais of their avot,

47 From shloshim shanah and upward even until chamishim shanah shalt thou number them, every one that entereth to do the Avodat Avodah (the Work of the Service, Ministry) and the Avodat Massa (Service, Ministry of the Burden) in the Ohel Mo’ed.

48 Even those that were numbered of them, were shmonat alafim vachamesh me’ot ushmonim (eight thousand and five hundred and fourscore),

49 According to the command of Hashem they were numbered by the hand of Moshe, every one according to his Avodah (Service), and according to his Massa (Burden); thus were they counted of him, as Hashem commanded Moshe.
