The Message Bible MSG
1 Escuchad la palabra del SEÑOR, hijos de Israel, porque el SEÑOR tiene querella contra los habitantes de la tierra, pues no hay fidelidad, ni misericordia, ni conocimiento de Dios en la tierra.

Attention all Israelites! God's Message! God indicts the whole population: "No one is faithful. No one loves. No one knows the first thing about God.
2 Sólo hay perjurio, mentira, asesinato, robo y adulterio. Emplean la violencia, y homicidios tras homicidios se suceden.

All this cussing and lying and killing, theft and loose sex, sheer anarchy, one murder after another!
3 Por eso la tierra está de luto, y languidece todo morador en ella junto con las bestias del campo y las aves del cielo; aun los peces del mar desaparecen.

And because of all this, the very land itself weeps and everything in it is grief-stricken - animals in the fields and birds on the wing, even the fish in the sea are listless, lifeless.
4 Pero que nadie contienda ni nadie reprenda; porque tu pueblo es como los que contienden con el sacerdote.

"But don't look for someone to blame. No finger pointing! You, priest, are the one in the dock.
5 Tropezarás de día, y tropezará también el profeta contigo de noche, y destruiré a tu madre.

You stumble around in broad daylight, And then the prophets take over and stumble all night. Your mother is as bad as you.
6 Mi pueblo es destruido por falta de conocimiento. Por cuanto tú has rechazado el conocimiento, yo también te rechazaré para que no seas mi sacerdote; como has olvidado la ley de tu Dios, yo también me olvidaré de tus hijos.

My people are ruined because they don't know what's right or true. Because you've turned your back on knowledge, I've turned my back on you priests. Because you refuse to recognize the revelation of God, I'm no longer recognizing your children.
7 Cuanto más se multiplicaron, más pecaron contra mí; cambiaré, pues, su gloria en afrenta.

The more priests, the more sin. They traded in their glory for shame.
8 Del pecado de mi pueblo se alimentan, y hacia su iniquidad dirigen sus deseos .

They pig out on my people's sins. They can't wait for the latest in evil.
9 Como el pueblo, así será el sacerdote; los castigaré por su proceder, y les pagaré según sus obras.

The result: You can't tell the people from the priests, the priests from the people. I'm on my way to make them both pay and take the consequences of the bad lives they've lived.
10 Comerán, pero no se saciarán; se prostituirán, pero no se multiplicarán, porque han dejado de hacer caso al SEÑOR.

They'll eat and be as hungry as ever, have sex and get no satisfaction. They walked out on me, their God, for a life of rutting with whores. They Make a Picnic Out of Religion
11 La prostitución, el vino y el mosto quitan el juicio.

"Wine and whiskey leave my people in a stupor.
12 Mi pueblo consulta a su ídolo de madera, y su vara les informa; porque un espíritu de prostitución los ha descarriado, y se han prostituido, apartándose de su Dios.

They ask questions of a dead tree, expect answers from a sturdy walking stick. Drunk on sex, they can't find their way home. They've replaced their God with their genitals.
13 Ofrecen sacrificios sobre las cumbres de los montes y queman incienso sobre las colinas, debajo de las encinas, los álamos y los terebintos, porque su sombra es agradable. Por tanto, vuestras hijas se prostituyen, y vuestras nueras cometen adulterio.

They worship on the tops of mountains, make a picnic out of religion. Under the oaks and elms on the hills they stretch out and take it easy. Before you know it, your daughters are whores and the wives of your sons are sleeping around.
14 No castigaré a vuestras hijas cuando se prostituyan ni a vuestras nueras cuando cometan adulterio, porque los hombres mismos se retiran con rameras y ofrecen sacrificios con las rameras del culto pagano ; así se pierde el pueblo sin entendimiento.

But I'm not going after your whoring daughters or the adulterous wives of your sons. It's the men who pick up the whores that I'm after, the men who worship at the holy whorehouses - a stupid people, ruined by whores!
15 Aunque tú, Israel, te prostituyas, que no se haga culpable Judá; tampoco vayáis a Gilgal, ni subáis a Bet-avén, ni juréis: ¡Vive el SEÑOR!

"You've ruined your own life, Israel - but don't drag Judah down with you! Don't go to the sex shrine at Gilgal, don't go to that sin city Bethel, Don't go around saying 'God bless you' and not mean it, taking God's name in vain.
16 Puesto que Israel es terco como novilla indómita, ¿los pastoreará ahora el SEÑOR como a un cordero en campo espacioso?

Israel is stubborn as a mule. How can God lead him like a lamb to open pasture?
17 Efraín se ha unido a los ídolos; déjalo.

Ephraim is addicted to idols. Let him go.
18 Acabada su bebida, se entregaron a la prostitución; sus príncipes aman mucho la ignominia.

When the beer runs out, it's sex, sex, and more sex. Bold and sordid debauchery - how they love it!
19 El viento los envuelve en sus alas, y se avergonzarán de sus sacrificios.

The whirlwind has them in its clutches. Their sex-worship leaves them finally impotent.
