1 Il figliuol savio ascolta l’ammaestramento di suo padre; Ma lo schernitore non ascolta riprensione.

2 L’uomo mangerà del bene del frutto delle sue labbra; Ma l’anima degli scellerati mangerà del frutto di violenza.

3 Chi guarda la sua bocca preserva l’anima sua; Ma ruina avverrà a chi apre disordinatamente le sue labbra.

4 L’anima del pigro appetisce, e non ha nulla; Ma l’anima de’ diligenti sarà ingrassata.

5 Il giusto odia la parola bugiarda; Ma l’empio si rende puzzolente ed infame.

6 La giustizia guarda colui che è intiero di via; Ma l’empietà sovverte il peccatore.

7 Vi è tale che si fa ricco, e non ha nulla; Tale altresì che si fa povero, ed ha di gran facoltà.

8 Le ricchezze dell’uomo sono il riscatto della sua vita; Ma il povero non ode alcuna minaccia.

9 La luce de’ giusti sarà lieta; Ma la lampana degli empi sarà spenta.

10 Per orgoglio non si produce altro che contese; Ma la sapienza è con quelli che si consigliano.

11 Le ricchezze procedenti da vanità scemeranno; Ma chi raduna con la mano le accrescerà.

12 La speranza prolungata fa languire il cuore; Ma il desiderio adempiuto è un albero di vita.

13 Chi sprezza la parola andrà in perdizione; Ma chi riverisce il comandamento riceverà retribuzione.

14 L’insegnamento di un savio è una fonte di vita, Per ritrarsi da’ lacci della morte.

15 Buon senno reca grazia; Ma il procedere de’ perfidi è duro.

16 L’uomo avveduto fa ogni cosa con conoscimento; Ma il pazzo spande follia.

17 Il messo malvagio caderà in male; Ma l’ambasciator fedele reca sanità.

18 Povertà ed ignominia avverranno a chi schifa la correzione; Ma chi osserva la riprensione sarà onorato.

19 Il desiderio adempiuto è cosa soave all’anima; Ed agli stolti è cosa abbominevole lo stornarsi dal male.

20 Chi va co’ savi diventerà savio; Ma il compagno degli stolti diventerà malvagio.

21 Il male perseguita i peccatori; Ma Iddio renderà il bene a’ giusti.

22 L’uomo da bene lascerà la sua eredità a’ figliuoli de’ figliuoli; Ma le facoltà del peccatore son riserbate al giusto.

23 Il campo lavorato de’ poveri produce abbondanza di cibo; Ma vi è tale che è consumato per mancamento di buon governo.

24 Chi risparmia la sua verga odia il suo figliuolo; Ma chi l’ama gli procura correzione per tempo.

25 Il giusto mangerà a sazietà dell’anima sua; Ma il ventre degli empi avrà mancamento.

1 Wise children pay attention when their parents correct them, but arrogant people never admit they are wrong.

2 Good people will be rewarded for what they say, but those who are deceitful are hungry for violence.

3 Be careful what you say and protect your life. A careless talker destroys himself.

4 No matter how much a lazy person may want something, he will never get it. A hard worker will get everything he wants.

5 Honest people hate lies, but the words of wicked people are shameful and disgraceful.

6 Righteousness protects the innocent; wickedness is the downfall of sinners.
