1 L’uomo, il quale, essendo spesso ripreso, indura il suo collo, Di subito sarà fiaccato, senza rimedio.

A person who will not bend after many warnings will suddenly be broken beyond repair.
2 Quando i giusti sono aggranditi, il popolo si rallegra; Ma quando gli empi signoreggiano, il popolo geme.

When righteous people increase, the people [of God] rejoice, but when a wicked person rules, everybody groans.
3 L’uomo, che ama sapienza, rallegra suo padre; Ma il compagno delle meretrici dissipa i suoi beni.

A person who loves wisdom makes his father happy, but one who pays prostitutes wastes his wealth.
4 Il re mantiene il paese con dirittura; Ma chi è dato a’ presenti lo distrugge.

By means of justice, a king builds up a country, but a person who confiscates religious contributions tears it down.

A person who flatters his neighbor is spreading a net for him to step into.

To an evil person sin is bait in a trap, but a righteous person runs away from it and is glad.
7 Il giusto prende conoscenza della causa de’ miseri; Ma l’empio non intende alcun conoscimento.

A righteous person knows the just cause of the poor. A wicked person does not understand this.
8 Gli uomini schernitori allacciano la città; Ma i savi stornano l’ira.

Mockers create an uproar in a city, but wise people turn away anger.
9 L’uomo savio che litiga con un uomo stolto, Or si adira, or ride, e non ha alcuna requie.

When a wise person goes to court with a stubborn fool, he may rant and rave, but there is no peace and quiet.
10 Gli uomini di sangue odiano l’uomo intiero; Ma gli uomini diritti hanno cura della vita di esso.

Bloodthirsty people hate an innocent person, but decent people seek [to protect] his life.

A fool expresses all his emotions, but a wise person controls them.

If a ruler pays attention to lies, all his servants become wicked.

A poor person and an oppressor have this in common: The LORD gives both of them sight.

When a king judges the poor with honesty, his throne will always be secure.

A spanking and a warning produce wisdom, but an undisciplined child disgraces his mother.
16 Quando gli empi crescono, cresce il misfatto; Ma i giusti vedranno la ruina di quelli.

When wicked people increase, crime increases, but righteous people will witness their downfall.
17 Gastiga il tuo figliuolo, e tu ne sarai in riposo; Ed egli darà di gran diletti all’anima tua.

Correct your son, and he will give you peace of mind. He will bring delight to your soul.
18 Quando non vi è visione, il popolo è dissipato; Ma beato chi guarda la Legge.

Without prophetic vision people run wild, but blessed are those who follow [God's] teachings.

A slave cannot be disciplined with words. He will not respond, though he may understand.
20 Hai tu mai veduto un uomo precipitoso nel suo parlare? Vi è maggiore speranza d’uno stolto che di lui.

Have you met a person who is quick to answer? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Pamper a slave from childhood, and later he will be ungrateful.

An angry person stirs up a fight, and a hothead does much wrong.
23 L’alterezza dell’uomo l’abbassa; Ma chi è umile di spirito otterrà gloria.

A person's pride will humiliate him, but a humble spirit gains honor.
24 Chi partisce col ladro odia l’anima sua; Egli udirà l’esecrazione, e non però manifesterà il fatto.

Whoever is a thief's partner hates his own life. He will not testify under oath.
25 Lo spavento dell’uomo gli mette un laccio; Ma chi si confida nel Signore sarà levato ad alto in salvo.

A person's fear sets a trap [for him], but one who trusts the LORD is safe.
26 Molti cercano la faccia di colui che signoreggia; Ma dal Signore procede il giudicio di ciascuno.

Many seek an audience with a ruler, but justice for humanity comes from the LORD.
27 L’uomo iniquo è l’abbominio de’ giusti; E l’uomo che cammina dirittamente è l’abbominio dell’empio.

An unjust person is disgusting to righteous people. A decent person is disgusting to wicked people.
