1 Preise Jehova, meine Seele! Jehova, mein Gott, du bist sehr groß, mit Majestät und Pracht bist du bekleidet;

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty,
2 Du, der in Licht sich hüllt wie in ein Gewand, der die Himmel ausspannt gleich einer Zeltdecke;

wrapped in light as with a garment. You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
3 der seine Obergemächer bälkt in den Wassern, der Wolken macht zu seinem Gefährt, der da einherzieht auf den Fittichen des Windes;

you set the beams of your chambers on the waters, you make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind,
4 der seine Engel zu Winden macht, seine Diener zu flammendem Feuer.

you make the winds your messengers, fire and flame your ministers.
5 Er hat die Erde gegründet auf ihre Grundfesten; sie wird nicht wanken immer und ewiglich.

You set the earth on its foundations, so that it shall never be shaken.
6 Mit der Tiefe hattest du sie bedeckt wie mit einem Gewande; die Wasser standen über den Bergen.

You cover it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
7 Vor deinem Schelten flohen sie, vor der Stimme deines Donners eilten sie hinweg-

At your rebuke they flee; at the sound of your thunder they take to flight.
8 die Berge erhoben sich, es senkten sich die Täler an den Ort, den du ihnen festgesetzt.

They rose up to the mountains, ran down to the valleys to the place that you appointed for them.
9 Du hast ihnen eine Grenze gesetzt, die sie nicht überschreiten werden; sie werden nicht zurückkehren, die Erde zu bedecken.

You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth.
10 Du, der Quellen entsendet in die Täler; zwischen den Bergen fließen sie dahin;

You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills,
11 sie tränken alle Tiere des Feldes, die Wildesel stillen ihren Durst;

giving drink to every wild animal; the wild asses quench their thirst.
12 An denselben wohnen die Vögel des Himmels, zwischen den Zweigen hervor lassen sie ihre Stimme erschallen.

By the streams the birds of the air have their habitation; they sing among the branches.
13 Du, der die Berge tränkt aus seinen Obergemächern; von der Frucht deiner Werke wird die Erde gesättigt.

From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.
14 Der Gras hervorsprossen läßt für das Vieh, und Kraut zum Dienste der Menschen: um Brot hervorzubringen aus der Erde.

You cause the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for people to use, to bring forth food from the earth,
15 und damit Wein des Menschen Herz erfreue; um das Angesicht glänzen zu machen von Öl, und damit Brot des Menschen Herz stärke.

and wine to gladden the human heart, oil to make the face shine, and bread to strengthen the human heart.
16 Es werden gesättigt die Bäume Jehovas, die Zedern des Libanon, die er gepflanzt hat,

The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 woselbst die Vögel nisten; der Storch, Zypressen sind sein Haus.

In them the birds build their nests; the stork has its home in the fir trees.
18 Die hohen Berge sind für die Steinböcke, die Felsen eine Zuflucht für die Klippendächse.

The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the coneys.
19 Er hat den Mond gemacht für die bestimmten Zeiten; die Sonne weiß ihren Untergang.

You have made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.
20 Du machst Finsternis, und es wird Nacht; in ihr regen sich alle Tiere des Waldes;

You make darkness, and it is night, when all the animals of the forest come creeping out.
21 die jungen Löwen brüllen nach Raub und fordern von Gott ihre Speise.

The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God.
22 Die Sonne geht auf: sie ziehen sich zurück und lagern sich in ihre Höhlen.

When the sun rises, they withdraw and lie down in their dens.
23 Der Mensch geht aus an sein Werk und an seine Arbeit, bis zum Abend.

People go out to their work and to their labor until the evening.
24 Wie viele sind deiner Werke, Jehova! Du hast sie alle mit Weisheit gemacht, voll ist die Erde deiner Reichtümer.

O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Dieses Meer, groß und ausgedehnt nach allen Seiten hin: daselbst wimmelt's, ohne Zahl, von Tieren klein und groß.

Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great.
26 Daselbst ziehen Schiffe einher, der Leviathan, den du gebildet hast, um sich darin zu tummeln.

There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
27 Sie alle warten auf dich, daß du ihnen ihre Speise gebest zu seiner Zeit.

These all look to you to give them their food in due season;
28 Du gibst ihnen: sie sammeln ein; du tust deine Hand auf: sie werden gesättigt mit Gutem.

when you give to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 Du verbirgst dein Angesicht: sie erschrecken; du nimmst ihren Odem hinweg: sie hauchen aus und kehren zurück zu ihrem Staube.

When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
30 Du sendest deinen Odem aus: sie werden erschaffen, und du erneuerst die Fläche des Erdbodens.

When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.
31 Jehovas Herrlichkeit wird ewig sein, Jehova wird sich freuen seiner Werke;

May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works—
32 der die Erde anschaut, und sie bebt; er rührt die Berge an, und sie rauchen.

who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke.
33 Singen will ich Jehova mein Leben lang, will meinem Gott Psalmen singen, solange ich bin.

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 Möge ihm angenehm sein mein Sinnen! Ich, ich werde mich in Jehova erfreuen.

May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Die Sünder werden schwinden von der Erde, und die Gesetzlosen nicht mehr sein. Preise Jehova, meine Seele! Lobet Jehova!

Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord!
