1 Lobet Jehova! Preiset Jehova! Denn er ist gut, denn seine Güte währt ewiglich.

Praise the Lord! O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.
2 Wer wird aussprechen die Machttaten Gottes, hören lassen all sein Lob?

Who can utter the mighty doings of the Lord, or declare all his praise?
3 Glückselig die das Recht bewahren, der Gerechtigkeit übt zu aller Zeit!

Happy are those who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times.
4 Gedenke meiner, Jehova, mit der Gunst gegen dein Volk; suche mich heim mit deiner Rettung!

Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people; help me when you deliver them;
5 Daß ich anschaue die Wohlfahrt deiner Auserwählten, mich erfreue an der Freude deiner Nation, mich rühme mit deinem Erbteil.

that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory in your heritage.
6 Wir haben gesündigt samt unseren Vätern, haben unrecht getan, haben gesetzlos gehandelt.

Both we and our ancestors have sinned; we have committed iniquity, have done wickedly.
7 Unsere Väter in Ägypten beachteten nicht deine Wundertaten, gedachten nicht der Menge deiner Gütigkeiten und waren widerspenstig am Meere, beim Schilfmeere.

Our ancestors, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wonderful works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled against the Most High at the Red Sea.
8 Aber er rettete sie um seines Namens willen, um kundzutun seine Macht.

Yet he saved them for his name's sake, so that he might make known his mighty power.
9 Und er schalt das Schilfmeer, und es ward trocken; und er ließ sie durch die Tiefen gehen wie durch eine Wüste.

He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry; he led them through the deep as through a desert.
10 Und er rettete sie aus der Hand des Hassers, und erlöste sie aus der Hand des Feindes.

So he saved them from the hand of the foe, and delivered them from the hand of the enemy.
11 Und die Wasser bedeckten ihre Bedränger, nicht einer von ihnen blieb übrig.

The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them was left.
12 Da glaubten sie seinen Worten, sie sangen sein Lob.

Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.
13 Schnell vergaßen sie seine Taten, warteten nicht auf seinen Rat;

But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.
14 und sie wurden lüstern in der Wüste und versuchten Gott in der Einöde.

But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert;
15 Da gab er ihnen ihr Begehr, aber er sandte Magerkeit in ihre Seelen.

he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them.
16 Und sie wurden eifersüchtig auf Mose im Lager, auf Aaron, den Heiligen Jehovas.

They were jealous of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.
17 Die Erde tat sich auf, und verschlang Dathan und bedeckte die Rotte Abirams;

The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the faction of Abiram.
18 und ein Feuer brannte unter ihrer Rotte, eine Flamme verzehrte die Gesetzlosen.

Fire also broke out in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
19 Sie machten ein Kalb am Horeb und bückten sich vor einem gegossenen Bilde;

They made a calf at Horeb and worshiped a cast image.
20 und sie vertauschten ihre Herrlichkeit gegen das Bild eines Stieres, der Gras frißt.

They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 Sie vergaßen Gottes, ihres Retters, der Großes getan in Ägypten,

They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,
22 Wundertaten im Lande Hams, Furchtbares am Schilfmeer.

wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23 Da sprach er, daß er sie vertilgen wollte, wenn nicht Mose, sein Auserwählter, vor ihm in dem Riß gestanden hätte, um seinen Grimm vom Verderben abzuwenden.

Therefore he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
24 Und sie verschmähten das köstliche Land, glaubten nicht seinem Worte;

Then they despised the pleasant land, having no faith in his promise.
25 und sie murrten in ihren Zelten, hörten nicht auf die Stimme Jehovas.

They grumbled in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
26 Da schwur er ihnen, sie niederzuschlagen in der Wüste,
26
Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27 und ihren Samen niederzuschlagen unter den Nationen und sie zu zerstreuen in die Länder.

and would disperse their descendants among the nations, scattering them over the lands.
28 Und sie hängten sich an Baal-Peor und aßen Schlachtopfer der Toten;
28
Then they attached themselves to the Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead;
29 und sie erbitterten ihn durch ihre Handlungen, und eine Plage brach unter sie ein.

they provoked the Lord to anger with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
30 Da stand Pinehas auf und übte Gericht, und der Plage ward gewehrt.

Then Phinehas stood up and interceded, and the plague was stopped.
31 Und es wurde ihm zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht bis in Ewigkeit.

And that has been reckoned to him as righteousness from generation to generation forever.
32 Und sie erzürnten ihn an dem Wasser von Meriba, und es erging Mose übel ihretwegen;

They angered the Lord at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses on their account;
33 denn sie reizten seinen Geist, so daß er unbedacht redete mit seinen Lippen.

for they made his spirit bitter, and he spoke words that were rash.
34 Sie vertilgten die Völker nicht, wie doch Jehova ihnen gesagt hatte;
34
They did not destroy the peoples, as the Lord commanded them,
35 und sie vermischten sich mit den Nationen und lernten ihre Werke;
35
but they mingled with the nations and learned to do as they did.
36 und sie dienten ihren Götzen, und sie wurden ihnen zum Fallstrick.

They served their idols, which became a snare to them.
37 Und sie opferten ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter den Dämonen.

They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons;
38 Und sie vergossen unschuldiges Blut, das Blut ihrer Söhne und ihrer Töchter, welche sie den Götzen Kanaans opferten; und das Land wurde durch Blut entweiht.

they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.
39 Und sie verunreinigten sich durch ihre Werke und hurten durch ihre Handlungen.

Thus they became unclean by their acts, and prostituted themselves in their doings.
40 Da entbrannte der Zorn Jehovas wider sein Volk, und er verabscheute sein Erbteil;

Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he abhorred his heritage;
41 und er gab sie in die Hand der Nationen, und ihre Hasser herrschten über sie;
41
he gave them into the hand of the nations, so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42 und ihre Feinde bedrückten sie, und sie wurden gebeugt unter ihre Hand.

Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 Oftmals errettete er sie; sie aber waren widerspenstig in ihren Anschlägen, und sie sanken hin durch ihre Ungerechtigkeit.

Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes, and were brought low through their iniquity.
44 Und er sah an ihre Bedrängnis, wenn er ihr Schreien hörte;

Nevertheless he regarded their distress when he heard their cry.
45 und er gedachte ihnen zugut an seinen Bund, und es reute ihn nach der Menge seiner Gütigkeiten.

For their sake he remembered his covenant, and showed compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
46 Und er ließ sie Erbarmen finden vor allen, die sie gefangen weggeführt hatten.

He caused them to be pitied by all who held them captive.
47 Rette uns, Jehova, unser Gott, und sammle uns aus den Nationen, daß wir deinen heiligen Namen preisen, daß wir uns rühmen deines Lobes!
47
Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.
48 Gepriesen sei Jehova, der Gott Israels, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Und alles Volk sage: Amen! Lobet Jehova!

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the Lord!
