1 Ein Lied, ein Psalm. Von David. Befestigt ist mein Herz, o Gott! Ich will singen und Psalmen singen; auch meine Seele.

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make melody. Awake, my soul!
2 Wachet auf, Harfe und Laute! Ich will aufwecken die Morgenröte.

Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn.
3 Ich will dich preisen unter den Völkern, Jehova, und dich besingen unter den Völkerschaften;

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples, and I will sing praises to you among the nations.
4 denn groß ist deine Güte über die Himmel hinaus, und bis zu den Wolken deine Wahrheit.

For your steadfast love is higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
5 Erhebe dich über die Himmel, o Gott! Und über der ganzen Erde sei deine Herrlichkeit!

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth.
6 Damit befreit werden deine Geliebten, rette durch deine Rechte und erhöre uns!

Give victory with your right hand, and answer me, so that those whom you love may be rescued.
7 Gott hat geredet in seiner Heiligkeit: Frohlocken will ich, will Sichem verteilen, und das Tal Sukkoth ausmessen.

God has promised in his sanctuary: "With exultation I will divide up Shechem, and portion out the Vale of Succoth.
8 Mein ist Gilead, mein Manasse, und Ephraim ist die Wehr meines Hauptes, Juda mein Herrscherstab.

Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter.
9 Moab ist mein Waschbecken; auf Edom will ich meine Sandale werfen, über Philistäa will ich jauchzen.

Moab is my washbasin; on Edom I hurl my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph."
10 Wer wird mich führen in die befestigte Stadt, wer wird mich leiten bis nach Edom?

Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Nicht du, Gott, der du uns verworfen hast und nicht auszogest, o Gott, mit unseren Heeren?

Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
12 Schaffe uns Hilfe aus der Bedrängnis! Menschenrettung ist ja eitel.

O grant us help against the foe, for human help is worthless.
13 Mit Gott werden wir mächtige Taten tun; und er, er wird unsere Bedränger zertreten.

With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.
