Psalm 12

CJB 1 For the leader. On sh'minit [low-pitched musical instruments?]. A psalm of David: Help, ADONAI! For no one godly is left; the faithful have vanished from humankind. NIV 1 Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. CJB 2 They all tell lies to each other, flattering with their lips, but speaking from divided hearts. NIV 2 Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts. CJB 3 May ADONAI cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks so proudly, NIV 3 May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue— CJB 4 those who say, "By our tongues, we will prevail; our lips are with us. Who can master us?" NIV 4 those who say, “By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?” CJB 5 "Because the poor are oppressed, because the needy are groaning, I will now rise up," says ADONAI, "and grant security to those whom they scorn." NIV 5 “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.” CJB 6 The words of ADONAI are pure words, silver in a melting-pot set in the earth, refined and purified seven times over. NIV 6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. CJB 7 You, ADONAI, protect us; guard us forever from this generation NIV 7 You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, CJB 8 the wicked strut about everywhere when vileness is held in general esteem. NIV 8 who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.
