O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
2 Du kennst mein Sitzen und mein Aufstehen, du verstehst meine Gedanken von ferne.

You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.
3 Du sichtest mein Wandeln und mein Liegen und bist vertraut mit allen meinen Wegen.

You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Denn das Wort ist noch nicht auf meiner Zunge, siehe, Jehova, du weißt es ganz.

Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely.
5 Von hinten und von vorn hast du mich eingeengt, und auf mich gelegt deine Hand.

You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
6 Kenntnis, zu wunderbar für mich, zu hoch: ich vermag sie nicht zu erfassen!

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.
7 Wohin sollte ich gehen vor deinem Geiste, und wohin fliehen vor deinem Angesicht?

Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?
8 Führe ich auf zum Himmel, du bist da; und bettete ich mir in dem Scheol, siehe, du bist da.

If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
9 Nähme ich Flügel der Morgenröte, ließe ich mich nieder am äußersten Ende des Meeres,

If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
10 auch daselbst würde deine Hand mich leiten, und deine Rechte mich fassen.

even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.
11 Und spräche ich: Nur Finsternis möge mich umhüllen, und Nacht werde das Licht um mich her:

If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,"
12 Auch Finsternis würde vor dir nicht verfinstern, und die Nacht würde leuchten wie der Tag, die Finsternis wäre wie das Licht.

even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.
13 Denn du besaßest meine Nieren; du wobest mich in meiner Mutter Leibe.

For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 Ich preise dich darüber, daß ich auf eine erstaunliche, ausgezeichnete Weise gemacht bin. Wunderbar sind deine Werke, und meine Seele weiß es sehr wohl.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.
15 Nicht verhohlen war mein Gebein vor dir, als ich gemacht ward im Verborgenen, gewirkt wie ein Stickwerk in den untersten Örtern der Erde.

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Meinen Keim sahen deine Augen, und in dein Buch waren sie alle eingeschrieben; während vieler Tage wurden sie gebildet, als nicht eines von ihnen war.

Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.
17 Und wie köstlich sind mir deine Gedanken, o Gott! Wie gewaltig sind ihre Summen!

How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18 Wollte ich sie zählen, ihrer sind mehr als des Sandes. Ich erwache und bin noch bei dir.

I try to count them—they are more than the sand; I come to the end —I am still with you.
19 Möchtest du, o Gott, den Gesetzlosen töten! Und ihr Blutmenschen, weichet von mir! ...

O that you would kill the wicked, O God, and that the bloodthirsty would depart from me—
20 Sie, die dich nennen zum Verbrechen, die zu Eitlem schwören, deine Feinde.

those who speak of you maliciously, and lift themselves up against you for evil!
21 Hasse ich nicht, Jehova, die dich hassen, und verabscheue ich nicht, die wider dich aufstehen?

Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
22 Mit vollkommenem Hasse hasse ich sie; sie sind Feinde für mich.

I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.
23 Erforsche mich, Gott, und erkenne mein Herz; prüfe mich und erkenne meine Gedanken!

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.
24 Und sieh, ob ein Weg der Mühsal bei mir ist, und leite mich auf ewigem Wege!

See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
