Deliver me, O Lord, from evildoers; protect me from those who are violent,
2 Welche Bosheiten ersinnen im Herzen, täglich Krieg erregen.

who plan evil things in their minds and stir up wars continually.
3 Sie schärfen ihre Zunge wie eine Schlange; Otterngift ist unter ihren Lippen. (Sela.)

They make their tongue sharp as a snake's, and under their lips is the venom of vipers. (Selah)
4 Bewahre mich, Jehova, vor den Händen des Gesetzlosen, vor dem Manne der Gewalttaten behüte mich, welche darauf sinnen, meine Tritte umzustoßen!

Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent who have planned my downfall.
5 Die Hoffärtigen haben mir heimlich eine Schlinge und Fallstricke gelegt, ein Netz ausgespannt zur Seite des Weges, sie haben mir Fallen gestellt. (Sela.)

The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net, along the road they have set snares for me. (Selah)
6 Ich sprach zu Jehova: Du bist mein Gott! Nimm zu Ohren, Jehova, die Stimme meines Flehens!

I say to the Lord, "You are my God; give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my supplications."
7 Jehova, der Herr, ist die Stärke meiner Rettung; du hast mein Haupt beschirmt am Tage der Waffen.

O Lord, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have covered my head in the day of battle.
8 Gewähre nicht, Jehova, die Gelüste des Gesetzlosen, laß sein Vorhaben nicht gelingen: sie würden sich erheben. (Sela.)

Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; do not further their evil plot. (Selah)
9 Die Häupter derer, die mich umringen, das Unheil ihrer Lippen bedecke sie!

Those who surround me lift up their heads; let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them!
10 Mögen feurige Kohlen auf sie herabfallen! Ins Feuer stürze er sie, in Wasserfluten, daß sie nicht aufstehen!

Let burning coals fall on them! Let them be flung into pits, no more to rise!
11 Der Mann von böser Zunge möge nicht feststehen im Lande; der Mann der Gewalttat, das Böse möge ihn jagen bis zum Sturz!

Do not let the slanderer be established in the land; let evil speedily hunt down the violent!
12 Ich weiß, daß Jehova ausführen wird die Rechtssache des Elenden, das Recht der Armen.

I know that the Lord maintains the cause of the needy, and executes justice for the poor.
13 Ja, die Gerechten werden deinen Namen preisen, die Aufrichtigen werden vor deinem Angesicht wohnen.

Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall live in your presence.
