1 Ein Gebet von Mose, dem Manne Gottes. Herr, du bist unsere Wohnung gewesen von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.

Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Ehe geboren waren die Berge, und du die Erde und den Erdkreis erschaffen hattest ja, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit bist du Gott.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 Du lässest zum Staube zurückkehren den Menschen, und sprichst: Kehret zurück, ihr Menschenkinder!

You turn us back to dust, and say, "Turn back, you mortals."
4 Denn tausend Jahre sind in deinen Augen wie der gestrige Tag, wenn er vergangen ist, und wie eine Wache in der Nacht.

For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.
5 Du schwemmst sie hinweg, sie sind wie ein Schlaf, am Morgen wie Gras, das aufsproßt;

You sweep them away; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning;
6 am Morgen blüht es und sproßt auf; am Abend wird es abgemäht und verdorrt.

in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.
7 Denn wir vergehen durch deinen Zorn, und durch deinen Grimm werden wir hinweggeschreckt.

For we are consumed by your anger; by your wrath we are overwhelmed.
8 Du hast unsere Ungerechtigkeiten vor dich gestellt, unser verborgenes Tun vor das Licht deines Angesichts.

You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance.
9 Denn alle unsere Tage schwinden durch deinen Grimm, wir bringen unsere Jahre zu wie einen Gedanken.

For all our days pass away under your wrath; our years come to an end like a sigh.
10 Die Tage unserer Jahre, ihrer sind siebzig Jahre, und, wenn in Kraft, achtzig Jahre, und ihr Stolz ist Mühsal und Nichtigkeit, denn schnell eilt es vorüber, und wir fliegen dahin.

The days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty, if we are strong; even then their span is only toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Wer erkennt die Stärke deines Zornes, und, deiner Furcht gemäß, deinen Grimm?

Who considers the power of your anger? Your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
12 So lehre uns denn zählen unsere Tage, auf daß wir ein weises Herz erlangen!

So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.
13 Kehre wieder, Jehova! Bis wann? Und laß dich's gereuen über deine Knechte!

Turn, O Lord! How long? Have compassion on your servants!
14 Sättige uns früh mit deiner Güte, so werden wir jubeln und uns freuen in allen unseren Tagen.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Erfreue uns nach den Tagen, da du uns gebeugt hast, nach den Jahren, da wir Übles gesehen!

Make us glad as many days as you have afflicted us, and as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Laß deinen Knechten erscheinen dein Tun, und deine Majestät ihren Söhnen!

Let your work be manifest to your servants, and your glorious power to their children.
17 Und die Huld des Herrn, unseres Gottes, sei über uns! Und befestige über uns das Werk unserer Hände; ja, das Werk unserer Hände, befestige es!

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands— O prosper the work of our hands!
