Revised Standard Version RSV
Good News Translation GNT
1 A Song. A Psalm of David. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Awake, my soul!
1
I have complete confidence, O God! I will sing and praise you! Wake up, my soul!
2 Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn!
2
Wake up, my harp and lyre! I will wake up the sun.
3 I will give thanks to thee, O LORD, among the peoples, I will sing praises to thee among the nations.
3
I will thank you, O Lord, among the nations. I will praise you among the peoples.
4 For thy steadfast love is great above the heavens, thy faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
4
Your constant love reaches above the heavens; your faithfulness touches the skies.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let thy glory be over all the earth!
5
Show your greatness in the sky, O God, and your glory over all the earth.
6 That thy beloved may be delivered, give help by thy right hand, and answer me!
6
Save us by your might; answer my prayer, so that the people you love may be rescued.
7 God has promised in his sanctuary: "With exultation I will divide up Shechem, and portion out the Vale of Succoth.
7
From his sanctuary God has said, "In triumph I will divide Shechem and distribute Sukkoth Valley to my people.
8 Gilead is mine; Manas'seh is mine; E'phraim is my helmet; Judah my scepter.
8
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh too; Ephraim is my helmet and Judah my royal scepter.
9 Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph."
9
But I will use Moab as my washbowl, and I will throw my sandals on Edom, as a sign that I own it. I will shout in triumph over the Philistines."
10 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
10
Who, O God, will take me into the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Hast thou not rejected us, O God? Thou dost not go forth, O God, with our armies.
11
Have you really rejected us? Aren't you going to march out with our armies?
12 O grant us help against the foe, for vain is the help of man!
12
Help us against the enemy; human help is worthless.
13 With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.
13
With God on our side we will win; he will defeat our enemies.
