1 From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help.

I cry out to you from the depths, LORD—
2 Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer.

my Lord, listen to my voice! Let your ears pay close attention to my request for mercy!
3 LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?

If you kept track of sins, LORD— my Lord, who would stand a chance?
4 But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.

But forgiveness is with you— that's why you are honored.
5 I am counting on the LORD ; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.

I hope, LORD. My whole being hopes, and I wait for God's promise.
6 I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.

My whole being waits for my Lord— more than the night watch waits for morning; yes, more than the night watch waits for morning!
7 O Israel, hope in the LORD ; for with the LORD there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows.

Israel, wait for the LORD! Because faithful love is with the LORD; because great redemption is with our God!
8 He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin.

He is the one who will redeem Israel from all its sin.
