Psalms 132

CJB

MSG

1 A song of ascents: ADONAI, remember in David's favor all the hardships he endured,
1 O God, remember David, remember all his troubles!
2 how he swore to ADONAI, vowed to the Mighty One of Ya'akov,
2 And remember how he promised God, made a vow to the Strong God of Jacob,
3 "I will not enter the house where I live or get into my bed,
3 "I'm not going home, and I'm not going to bed,
4 I will not allow myself to sleep or even close my eyes,
4 I'm not going to sleep, not even take time to rest,
5 until I find a place for ADONAI, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Ya'akov."
5 Until I find a home for God, a house for the Strong God of Jacob."
6 We heard about it in Efrat, we found it in the Fields of Ya'ar.
6 Remember how we got the news in Ephrathah, learned all about it at Jaar Meadows?
7 Let's go into his dwelling and prostrate ourselves at his footstool.
7 We shouted, "Let's go to the shrine dedication! Let's worship at God's own footstool!"
8 Go up, ADONAI, to your resting-place, you and the ark through which you give strength.
8 Up, God, enjoy your new place of quiet repose, you and your mighty covenant ark;
9 May your cohanim be clothed with righteousness; may those loyal to you shout for joy.
9 Get your priests all dressed up in justice; prompt your worshipers to sing this prayer:
10 For the sake of your servant David, don't turn away the face of your anointed one.
10 "Honor your servant David; don't disdain your anointed one."
11 ADONAI swore an oath to David, an oath he will not break: "One of the sons from your own body I will set on your throne.
11 God gave David his word, he won't back out on this promise: "One of your sons I will set on your throne;
12 If your sons keep my covenant and my instruction, which I will teach them, then their descendants too, forever, will sit on your throne."
12 If your sons stay true to my Covenant and learn to live the way I teach them, Their sons will continue the line - always a son to sit on your throne.
13 For ADONAI has chosen Tziyon, he has wanted it as his home.
13 Yes - I, God, chose Zion, the place I wanted for my shrine;
14 "This is my resting-place forever, I will live here because I so much want to.
14 This will always be my home; this is what I want, and I'm here for good.
15 I will bless it with plenty of meat, I will give its poor their fill of food.
15 I'll shower blessings on the pilgrims who come here, and give supper to those who arrive hungry;
16 Its cohanim I will clothe with salvation, and its faithful will shout for joy.
16 I'll dress my priests in salvation clothes; the holy people will sing their hearts out!
17 I will make a king sprout there from David's line and prepare a lamp for my anointed one.
17 Oh, I'll make the place radiant for David! I'll fill it with light for my anointed!
18 His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him there will be a shining crown."
18 I'll dress his enemies in dirty rags, but I'll make his crown sparkle with splendor."
