Common English Bible CEB
1 LORD, remember David and all that he suffered.
1
LORD, remember David— all the ways he suffered
2 He made a solemn promise to the LORD . He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel,
2
and how he swore to the LORD, how he promised the strong one of Jacob:
3 “I will not go home; I will not let myself rest.
3
"I won't enter my house, won't get into my bed.
4 I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber
4
I won't let my eyes close, won't let my eyelids sleep,
5 until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”
5
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the strong one of Jacob."
6 We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar.
6
Yes, we heard about it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.
7 Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD ; let us worship at the footstool of his throne.
7
Let's enter God's dwelling place; let's worship at the place God rests his feet!
8 Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power.
8
Get up, LORD, go to your residence— you and your powerful covenant chest!
9 May your priests be clothed in godliness; may your loyal servants sing for joy.
9
Let your priests be dressed in righteousness; let your faithful shout out with joy!
10 For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you have anointed.
10
And for the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.
11 The LORD swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne.
11
The LORD swore to David a true promise that God won't take back: "I will put one of your own children on your throne.
12 If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.”
12
And if your children keep my covenant and the laws that I will teach them, then their children too will rule on your throne forever."
13 For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem ; he has desired it for his home.
13
Because the LORD chose Zion; he wanted it for his home.
14 “This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired.
14
"This is my residence forever. I will live here because I wanted it for myself.
15 I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food.
15
I will most certainly bless its food supply; I will fill its needy full of food!
16 I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy.
16
I will dress its priests in salvation, and its faithful will shout out loud with joy!
17 Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people.
17
It is there that I will make David's strength thrive. I will prepare a lamp for my anointed one there.
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.”
18
I will dress his enemies in shame, but the crown he wears will shine."
