GOD'S WORD Translation GW
1 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD, give praise, O servants of the LORD,
1
Hallelujah! Praise the name of the LORD. Praise him, you servants of the LORD
2 you that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God!
2
who are standing in the house of the LORD, in the courtyards of the house of our God.
3 Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for he is gracious!
3
Praise the LORD because he is good. Make music to praise his name because his name is beautiful.
4 For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.
4
The LORD chose Jacob to be his own and chose Israel to be his own special treasure.
5 For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.
5
I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all the false gods.
6 Whatever the LORD pleases he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.
6
The LORD does whatever he wants in heaven or on earth, on the seas or in all the depths of the oceans.
7 He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.
7
He is the one who makes the clouds rise from the ends of the earth, who makes lightning for the thunderstorms, and who brings wind out of his storerooms.
8 He it was who smote the first-born of Egypt, both of man and of beast;
8
He is the one who killed every firstborn male in Egypt. He killed humans and animals alike.
9 who in thy midst, O Egypt, sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants;
9
He sent miraculous signs and amazing things into the heart of Egypt against Pharaoh and all his officials.
10 who smote many nations and slew mighty kings,
10
He is the one who defeated many nations and killed mighty kings:
11 Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan,
11
King Sihon of the Amorites, King Og of Bashan, and all the kingdoms in Canaan.
12 and gave their land as a heritage, a heritage to his people Israel.
12
He gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to his people Israel.
13 Thy name, O LORD, endures for ever, thy renown, O LORD, throughout all ages.
13
O LORD, your name endures forever. O LORD, you will be remembered throughout every generation.
14 For the LORD will vindicate his people, and have compassion on his servants.
14
The LORD will provide justice for his people and have compassion on his servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
15
The idols of the nations are made of silver and gold. They were made by human hands.
16 They have mouths, but they speak not, they have eyes, but they see not,
16
They have mouths, but they cannot speak. They have eyes, but they cannot see.
17 they have ears, but they hear not, nor is there any breath in their mouths.
17
They have ears, but they cannot hear. They cannot breathe.
18 Like them be those who make them! --yea, every one who trusts in them!
18
Those who make idols end up like them. So does everyone who trusts them.
19 O house of Israel, bless the LORD! O house of Aaron, bless the LORD!
19
Descendants of Israel, praise the LORD. Descendants of Aaron, praise the LORD.
20 O house of Levi, bless the LORD! You that fear the LORD, bless the LORD!
20
Descendants of Levi, praise the LORD. You people who fear the LORD, praise the LORD.
21 Blessed be the LORD from Zion, he who dwells in Jerusalem! Praise the LORD!
21
Thank the LORD in Zion. Thank the one who lives in Jerusalem. Hallelujah!
