Psalm 30

CJB

MSG

1 A psalm. A song for the dedication of the house. By David: I will exalt you, ADONAI, because you drew me up; you didn't let my enemies rejoice over me.
1 I give you all the credit, God - you got me out of that mess, you didn't let my foes gloat.
2 ADONAI my God, I cried out to you, and you provided healing for me.
2 God, my God, I yelled for help and you put me together.
3 ADONAI, you lifted me up from Sh'ol; you kept me alive when I was sinking into a pit.
3 God, you pulled me out of the grave, gave me another chance at life when I was down-and-out.
4 Sing praise to ADONAI, you faithful of his; and give thanks on recalling his holiness.
4 All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face!
5 For his anger is momentary, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Tears may linger for the night, but with dawn come cries of joy.
5 He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter.
6 Once I was prosperous and used to say, that nothing could ever shake me
6 When things were going great I crowed, "I've got it made.
7 when you showed me favor, ADONAI, I was firm as a mighty mountain. But when you hid your face, I was struck with terror.
7 I'm God's favorite. He made me king of the mountain." Then you looked the other way and I fell to pieces.
8 I called to you, ADONAI; to ADONAI I pleaded for mercy:
8 I called out to you, God; I laid my case before you:
9 "What advantage is there in my death, in my going down to the pit? Can the dust praise you? Can it proclaim your truth?
9 "Can you sell me for a profit when I'm dead? auction me off at a cemetery yard sale? When I'm 'dust to dust' my songs and stories of you won't sell.
10 Hear me, ADONAI, and show me your favor! ADONAI, be my helper!"
10 So listen! and be kind! Help me out of this!"
11 You turned my mourning into dancing! You removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
11 You did it: you changed wild lament into whirling dance; You ripped off my black mourning band and decked me with wildflowers.
12 so that my well-being can praise you and not be silent; ADONAI my God, I will thank you forever!
12 I'm about to burst with song; I can't keep quiet about you. God, my God, I can't thank you enough.
