1 Sing to the Lord, you who do what is right; honest people should praise him.

ejoice in ADONAI, you righteous! Praise is well-suited to the upright.
2 Praise the Lord on the harp; make music for him on a ten-stringed lyre.

Give thanks to ADONAI with the lyre, sing praises to him with a ten-stringed harp.
3 Sing a new song to him; play well and joyfully.

Sing to him a new song, make music at your best among shouts of joy.
4 God's word is true, and everything he does is right.

For the word of ADONAI is true, and all his work is trustworthy.
5 He loves what is right and fair; the Lord's love fills the earth.

He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the grace of ADONAI.
6 The sky was made at the Lord's command. By the breath from his mouth, he made all the stars.

By the word of ADONAI the heavens were made, and their whole host by a breath from his mouth.
7 He gathered the water of the sea into a heap. He made the great ocean stay in its place.

He collects the sea waters together in a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 All the earth should worship the Lord; the whole world should fear him.

Let all the earth fear ADONAI! Let all living in the world stand in awe of him.
9 He spoke, and it happened. He commanded, and it appeared.

For he spoke, and there it was; he commanded, and there it stood.
10 The Lord upsets the plans of nations; he ruins all their plans.

ADONAI brings to nothing the plans of nations, he foils the plans of the peoples.
11 But the Lord's plans will stand forever; his ideas will last from now on.

But the counsel of ADONAI stands forever, his heart's plans are for all generations.
12 Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his very own.

How blessed is the nation whose God is ADONAI, the people he chose as his heritage!
13 The Lord looks down from heaven and sees every person.

ADONAI looks out from heaven; he sees every human being;
14 From his throne he watches all who live on earth.

from the place where he lives he watches everyone living on earth,
15 He made their hearts and understands everything they do.

he who fashioned the hearts of them all and understands all they do.
16 No king is saved by his great army. No warrior escapes by his great strength.

A king is not saved by the size of his army, a strong man not delivered by his great strength.
17 Horses can't bring victory; they can't save by their strength.

To rely on a horse for safety is vain, nor does its great power assure escape.
18 But the Lord looks after those who fear him, those who put their hope in his love.

But ADONAI's eyes watch over those who fear him, over those who wait for his grace
19 He saves them from death and spares their lives in times of hunger.

to rescue them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 So our hope is in the Lord. He is our help, our shield to protect us.

We are waiting for ADONAI; he is our help and shield.
21 We rejoice in him, because we trust his holy name.

For in him our hearts rejoice, because we trust in his holy name.
22 Lord, show your love to us as we put our hope in you. David's song from the time he acted crazy so Abimelech would send him away, and David did leave.

May your mercy, ADONAI, be over us, because we put our hope in you.
