Young's Literal Translation YLT
Holman Christian Standard Bible CSB
1 By David. Strive, Jehovah, with my strivers, fight with my fighters,
1
Oppose my opponents, Lord; fight those who fight me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and rise for my help,
2
Take Your shields-large and small- and come to my aid.
3 And draw out spear and lance, To meet my pursuers. Say to my soul, `Thy salvation I [am].'
3
Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers, and assure me: "I am your deliverance."
4 They are ashamed and blush, those seeking my soul, Turned backward and confounded, Those devising my evil.
4
Let those who seek to kill me be disgraced and humiliated; let those who plan to harm me be turned back and ashamed.
5 They are as chaff before wind, And a messenger of Jehovah driving away.
5
Let them be like husks in the wind, with the angel of the Lord driving them away.
6 Their way is darkness and slipperiness, And a messenger of Jehovah their pursuer.
6
Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.
7 For without cause they hid for me their netpit, Without cause they digged for my soul.
7
They hid their net for me without cause; they dug a pit for me without cause.
8 Meet him doth desolation -- he knoweth not, And his net that he hid catcheth him, For desolation he falleth into it.
8
Let ruin come on him unexpectedly, and let the net that he hid ensnare him; let him fall into it-to his ruin.
9 And my soul is joyful in Jehovah, It rejoiceth in His salvation.
9
Then I will rejoice in the Lord; I will delight in His deliverance.
10 All my bones say, `Jehovah, who is like Thee, Delivering the poor from the stronger than he, And the poor and needy from his plunderer.'
10
My very bones will say, "Lord, who is like You, rescuing the poor from one too strong for him, the poor or the needy from one who robs him?"
11 Violent witnesses rise up, That which I have not known they ask me.
11
Malicious witnesses come forward; they question me about things I do not know.
12 They pay me evil for good, bereaving my soul,
12
They repay me evil for good, making me desolate.
13 And I -- in their sickness my clothing [is] sackcloth, I have humbled with fastings my soul, And my prayer unto my bosom returneth.
13
Yet when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting, and my prayer was genuine.
14 As [if] a friend, as [if] my brother, I walked habitually, As a mourner for a mother, Mourning I have bowed down.
14
I went about [grieving] as if for my friend or brother; I was bowed down with grief, like one mourning a mother.
15 And -- in my halting they have rejoiced, And have been gathered together, Gathered against me were the smiters, And I have not known, They have rent, and they have not ceased;
15
But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; they gathered against me. Assailants I did not know tore at me and did not stop.
16 With profane ones, mockers in feasts, Gnashing against me their teeth.
16
With godless mockery they gnashed their teeth at me.
17 Lord, how long dost thou behold? Keep back my soul from their desolations, From young lions my only one.
17
Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue my life from their ravages, my very life from the young lions.
18 I thank Thee in a great assembly, Among a mighty people I praise Thee.
18
I will praise You in the great congregation; I will exalt You among many people.
19 Mine enemies rejoice not over me [with] falsehood, Those hating me without cause wink the eye.
19
Do not let my deceitful enemies rejoice over me; do not let those who hate me without cause look at me maliciously.
20 For they speak not peace, And against the quiet of the land, Deceitful words they devise,
20
For they do not speak in friendly ways, but contrive deceitful schemes against those who live peacefully in the land.
21 And they enlarge against me their mouth, They said, `Aha, aha, our eye hath seen.'
21
They open their mouths wide against me and say, "Aha, aha! We saw it!"
22 Thou hast seen, O Jehovah, Be not silent, O Lord -- be not far from me,
22
You saw it, Lord; do not be silent. Lord, do not be far from me.
23 Stir up, and wake to my judgment, My God, and my Lord, to my plea.
23
Wake up and rise to my defense, to my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 Judge me according to Thy righteousness, O Jehovah my God, And they do not rejoice over me.
24
Vindicate me, Lord, my God, in keeping with Your righteousness, and do not let them rejoice over me.
25 They do not say in their heart, `Aha, our desire.' They do not say, `We swallowed him up.'
25
Do not let them say in their hearts, "Aha! Just what we wanted." Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up!"
26 They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are rejoicing at my evil. They put on shame and confusion, Who are magnifying themselves against me.
26
Let those who rejoice at my misfortune be disgraced and humiliated; let those who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and reproach.
27 They sing and rejoice, who are desiring my righteousness, And they say continually, `Jehovah is magnified, Who is desiring the peace of His servant.'
27
Let those who want my vindication shout for joy and be glad; let them continually say, "The Lord be exalted, who wants His servant's well-being."
28 And my tongue uttereth Thy righteousness, All the day Thy praise!
28
And my tongue will proclaim Your righteousness, Your praise all day long.
