King James Version KJV
Good News Translation GNT
1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
1
Happy are those who are concerned for the poor; the Lord will help them when they are in trouble.
2 The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
2
The Lord will protect them and preserve their lives; he will make them happy in the land; he will not abandon them to the power of their enemies.
3 The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
3
The Lord will help them when they are sick and will restore them to health.
4 I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
4
I said, "I have sinned against you, Lord; be merciful to me and heal me."
5 Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
5
My enemies say cruel things about me. They want me to die and be forgotten.
6 And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
6
Those who come to see me are not sincere; they gather bad news about me and then go out and tell it everywhere.
7 All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
7
All who hate me whisper to each other about me, they imagine the worst about me.
8 An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
8
They say, "He is fatally ill; he will never leave his bed again."
9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
9
Even my best friend, the one I trusted most, the one who shared my food, has turned against me.
10 But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
10
Be merciful to me, Lord, and restore my health, and I will pay my enemies back.
11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
11
They will not triumph over me, and I will know that you are pleased with me.
12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
12
You will help me, because I do what is right; you will keep me in your presence forever.
13 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
13
Praise the Lord, the God of Israel! Praise him now and forever! Amen! Amen!
