The Complete Jewish Bible CJB
The Message Bible MSG
1 A song. A psalm of the descendants of Korach: Great is ADONAI and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God, his holy mountain,
1
God majestic, praise abounds in our God-city! His sacred mountain,
2 beautiful in its elevation, the joy of all the earth, Mount Tziyon, in the far north, the city of the great king.
2
breathtaking in its heights - earth's joy. Zion Mountain looms in the North, city of the world-King.
3 In its citadels God has been revealed as a strong defense.
3
God in his citadel peaks impregnable.
4 For the kings met by agreement; together they advanced.
4
The kings got together, they united and came.
5 They saw and were filled with consternation; terrified, they took to flight.
5
They took one look and shook their heads, they scattered and ran away.
6 Trembling took hold of them, pains like those of a woman in labor,
6
They doubled up in pain like a woman having a baby.
7 as when the wind out of the east wrecks the "Tarshish" ships.
7
You smashed the ships of Tarshish with a storm out of the East.
8 We heard it, and now we see for ourselves in the city of ADONAI-Tzva'ot, in the city of our God. May God establish it forever. (Selah)
8
We heard about it, then we saw it with our eyes - In God's city of angel armies, in the city our God Set on firm foundations, firm forever.
9 God, within your temple we meditate on your grace.
9
We pondered your love-in-action, God, waiting in your temple:
10 God, your praise, like your name, extends to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
10
Your name, God, evokes a train of Hallelujahs wherever It is spoken, near and far; your arms are heaped with goodness-in-action.
11 Let Mount Tziyon rejoice, let the daughters of Y'hudah be glad, because of your judgment [on the enemy].
11
Be glad, Zion Mountain; Dance, Judah's daughters! He does what he said he'd do!
12 Walk through Tziyon, go all around it; count how many towers it has.
12
Circle Zion, take her measure, count her fortress peaks,
13 Note its ramparts, pass through its citadels, so that you can tell generations to come
13
Gaze long at her sloping bulwark, climb her citadel heights - Then you can tell the next generation detail by detail the story of God,
14 that such is God, our God forever; he will guide us eternally.
14
Our God forever, who guides us till the end of time.
