Psalm 48

GNT

RSV

1 The Lord is great and is to be highly praised in the city of our God, on his sacred hill.
1 A Song. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain,
2 Zion, the mountain of God, is high and beautiful; the city of the great king brings joy to all the world.
2 beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King.
3 God has shown that there is safety with him inside the fortresses of the city.
3 Within her citadels God has shown himself a sure defense.
4 The kings gathered together and came to attack Mount Zion.
4 For lo, the kings assembled, they came on together.
5 But when they saw it, they were amazed; they were afraid and ran away.
5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded, they were in panic, they took to flight;
6 There they were seized with fear and anguish, like a woman about to bear a child,
6 trembling took hold of them there, anguish as of a woman in travail.
7 like ships tossing in a furious storm.
7 By the east wind thou didst shatter the ships of Tarshish.
8 We have heard what God has done, and now we have seen it in the city of our God, the Lord Almighty; he will keep the city safe forever.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God, which God establishes for ever. [Selah]
9 Inside your Temple, O God, we think of your constant love.
9 We have thought on thy steadfast love, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
10 You are praised by people everywhere, and your fame extends over all the earth. You rule with justice;
10 As thy name, O God, so thy praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Thy right hand is filled with victory;
11 let the people of Zion be glad! You give right judgments; let there be joy in the cities of Judah!
11 let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of thy judgments!
12 People of God, walk around Zion and count the towers;
12 Walk about Zion, go round about her, number her towers,
13 take notice of the walls and examine the fortresses, so that you may tell the next generation:
13 consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels; that you may tell the next generation
14 "This God is our God forever and ever; he will lead us for all time to come."
14 that this is God, our God for ever and ever. He will be our guide for ever.
