Psalm 52

CJB

BBE

1 For the leader. A maskil of David, when Do'eg from Edom came and told Sha'ul, "David has arrived at the house of Achimelekh": Why do you boast of your evil, you tyrant, when God's mercy is present every day?
1 <To the chief music-maker. Maschil. Of David. When Doeg the Edomite came to Saul saying, David has come to the house of Ahimelech. Why do you take pride in wrongdoing, lifting yourself up against the upright man all the day?
2 Your tongue, as sharp as a razor, plots destruction and works deception.
2 Purposing destruction, using deceit; your tongue is like a sharp blade.
3 You love evil more than good, lies rather than speaking uprightly. (Selah)
3 You have more love for evil than for good, for deceit than for works of righteousness. (Selah.)
4 You love all words that eat people up, you deceitful tongue!
4 Destruction is in all your words, O false tongue.
5 This is why God will strike you down, seize you, pluck you from your tent and uproot you from the land of the living. (Selah)
5 But God will put an end to you for ever; driving you out from your tent, uprooting you from the land of the living. (Selah.)
6 The righteous will see and be awestruck; they will jeer at him, saying,
6 The upright will see it with fear, and will say, laughing at you:
7 "This fellow would not make God his refuge, but trusted in his own great wealth, relying on his evil plots."
7 See, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but had faith in his goods and his property, and made himself strong in his wealth.
8 But I am like a leafy olive tree in the house of God; I put my trust in the grace of God forever and ever.
8 But I am like a branching olive-tree in the house of God; I have put my faith in his mercy for ever and ever.
9 I will praise you forever for what you have done, and I will put my hope in your name; for this is what is good in the presence of your faithful.
9 I will give you praise without end for what you have done; I will give honour to your name before your saints, for it is good.
