Revised Standard Version RSV
Good News Translation GNT
1 To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.
1
I wait patiently for God to save me; I depend on him alone.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly moved.
2
He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated.
3 How long will you set upon a man to shatter him, all of you, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
3
How much longer will all of you attack someone who is no stronger than a broken-down fence?
4 They only plan to thrust him down from his eminence. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. [Selah]
4
You only want to bring him down from his place of honor; you take pleasure in lies. You speak words of blessing, but in your heart you curse him.
5 For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.
5
I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
6
He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated.
7 On God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
7
My salvation and honor depend on God; he is my strong protector; he is my shelter.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. [Selah]
8
Trust in God at all times, my people. Tell him all your troubles, for he is our refuge.
9 Men of low estate are but a breath, men of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath.
9
Human beings are all like a puff of breath; great and small alike are worthless. Put them on the scales, and they weigh nothing; they are lighter than a mere breath.
10 Put no confidence in extortion, set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
10
Don't put your trust in violence; don't hope to gain anything by robbery; even if your riches increase, don't depend on them.
11 Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God;
11
More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to him
12 and that to thee, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For thou dost requite a man according to his work.
12
and that his love is constant. You yourself, O Lord, reward everyone according to their deeds.
