Revised Standard Version RSV
Good News Translation GNT
1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God, I seek thee, my soul thirsts for thee; my flesh faints for thee, as in a dry and weary land where no water is.
1
O God, you are my God, and I long for you. My whole being desires you; like a dry, worn-out, and waterless land, my soul is thirsty for you.
2 So I have looked upon thee in the sanctuary, beholding thy power and glory.
2
Let me see you in the sanctuary; let me see how mighty and glorious you are.
3 Because thy steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise thee.
3
Your constant love is better than life itself, and so I will praise you.
4 So I will bless thee as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on thy name.
4
I will give you thanks as long as I live; I will raise my hands to you in prayer.
5 My soul is feasted as with marrow and fat, and my mouth praises thee with joyful lips,
5
My soul will feast and be satisfied, and I will sing glad songs of praise to you.
6 when I think of thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the watches of the night;
6
As I lie in bed, I remember you; all night long I think of you,
7 for thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings I sing for joy.
7
because you have always been my help. In the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul clings to thee; thy right hand upholds me.
8
I cling to you, and your hand keeps me safe.
9 But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth;
9
Those who are trying to kill me will go down into the world of the dead.
10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword, they shall be prey for jackals.
10
They will be killed in battle, and their bodies eaten by wolves.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall glory; for the mouths of liars will be stopped.
11
Because God gives him victory, the king will rejoice. Those who make promises in God's name will praise him, but the mouths of liars will be shut.
