Good News Translation GNT
1 A Song. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. To the choirmaster: according to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD, my God, I call for help by day; I cry out in the night before thee.
1
Lord God, my savior, I cry out all day, and at night I come before you.
2 Let my prayer come before thee, incline thy ear to my cry!
2
Hear my prayer; listen to my cry for help!
3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.
3
So many troubles have fallen on me that I am close to death.
4 I am reckoned among those who go down to the Pit; I am a man who has no strength,
4
I am like all others who are about to die; all my strength is gone.
5 like one forsaken among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom thou dost remember no more, for they are cut off from thy hand.
5
I am abandoned among the dead; I am like the slain lying in their graves, those you have forgotten completely, who are beyond your help.
6 Thou hast put me in the depths of the Pit, in the regions dark and deep.
6
You have thrown me into the depths of the tomb, into the darkest and deepest pit.
7 Thy wrath lies heavy upon me, and thou dost overwhelm me with all thy waves. [Selah]
7
Your anger lies heavy on me, and I am crushed beneath its waves.
8 Thou hast caused my companions to shun me; thou hast made me a thing of horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape;
8
You have caused my friends to abandon me; you have made me repulsive to them. I am closed in and cannot escape;
9 my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call upon thee, O LORD; I spread out my hands to thee.
9
my eyes are weak from suffering. Lord, every day I call to you and lift my hands to you in prayer.
10 Dost thou work wonders for the dead? Do the shades rise up to praise thee? [Selah]
10
Do you perform miracles for the dead? Do they rise up and praise you?
11 Is thy steadfast love declared in the grave, or thy faithfulness in Abaddon?
11
Is your constant love spoken of in the grave or your faithfulness in the place of destruction?
12 Are thy wonders known in the darkness, or thy saving help in the land of forgetfulness?
12
Are your miracles seen in that place of darkness or your goodness in the land of the forgotten?
13 But I, O LORD, cry to thee; in the morning my prayer comes before thee.
13
Lord, I call to you for help; every morning I pray to you.
14 O LORD, why dost thou cast me off? Why dost thou hide thy face from me?
14
Why do you reject me, Lord? Why do you turn away from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer thy terrors; I am helpless.
15
Ever since I was young, I have suffered and been near death; I am worn out from the burden of your punishments.
16 Thy wrath has swept over me; thy dread assaults destroy me.
16
Your furious anger crushes me; your terrible attacks destroy me.
17 They surround me like a flood all day long; they close in upon me together.
17
All day long they surround me like a flood; they close in on me from every side.
18 Thou hast caused lover and friend to shun me; my companions are in darkness.
18
You have made even my closest friends abandon me, and darkness is my only companion.
