1 Brothers and sisters, with all my heart I long for the people of Israel to be saved. I pray to God for them.
1 Brethren, the will of mine heart and my beseeching is made to God for them into health.
2 I can give witness about them that they really want to serve God. But how they are trying to do it is not based on what they know.
2 But I bear witnessing to them [Forsooth I bear witnessing to them], that they have the love of God, but not after knowing.
3 They didn't know how God makes people right with himself. They tried to get right with God in their own way. They didn't do it in God's way.
3 For they not knowing God's rightwiseness [For they unknowing God's rightwiseness], and seeking to make steadfast their own rightwiseness, be not subject to the rightwiseness of God.
4 Christ has completed the law. So now everyone who believes can be right with God.
4 For the end of the law is Christ, to rightwiseness to each man that believeth.
5 Moses explained how the law could help a person do what God requires. He said, "The one who does those things will live by them."(Leviticus 18:5)
5 For Moses wrote, For the man that shall do rightwiseness that is of the law, shall live in it.
6 But the way to do what God requires must begin by having faith in him. Scripture says, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will go up into heaven?' "(Deuteronomy 30:12) That means to go up into heaven and bring Christ down.
6 But the rightwiseness that is of belief, saith thus, Say thou not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? that is to say, to lead down Christ;
7 "And do not say, 'Who will go down into the grave?' "(Deuteronomy 30:13) That means to bring Christ up from the dead.
7 or who shall go down into hell? that is, to again-call Christ from death. [+or who shall do down into deepness, or hell? that is, to again-call Christ from dead.]
8 But what does it say? "The word is near you. It's in your mouth and in your heart."(Deuteronomy 30:14) That means the word we are preaching. You must put your faith in it.
8 But what saith the scripture? The word is nigh in thy mouth, and in thine heart; this is the word of belief, which we preach.
9 Say with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord." Believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Then you will be saved.
9 That if thou acknowledge in thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believest in thine heart, that God raised him from death [that God raised him from dead], thou shalt be safe.
10 With your heart you believe and are made right with God. With your mouth you say that Jesus is Lord. And so you are saved.
10 For by heart me believeth to rightwiseness [Forsooth by heart men believeth to rightwiseness], but by mouth acknowledging is made to health.
11 Scripture says, "The one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."(Isaiah 28:16)
11 For why the scripture saith, Each that believeth in him, shall not be confounded.
12 There is no difference between those who are Jews and those who are not. The same Lord is Lord of all. He richly blesses everyone who calls on him.
12 And there is no distinction of Jew and of Greek; for the same Lord of all is rich into all, that inwardly call him [that in-call him].
13 Scripture says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."(Joel 2:32)
13 For each man, whoever shall inwardly call [whoever shall in-call] the name of the Lord, shall be safe.
14 How can they call on him unless they believe in him? How can they believe in him unless they hear about him? How can they hear about him unless someone preaches to them?
14 How then shall they inwardly call him [How therefore shall they in-call him], into whom they have not believed? or how shall they believe to him, whom they have not heard? How shall they hear, without a preacher?
15 And how can anyone preach without being sent? It is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"(Isaiah 52:7)
15 and how shall they preach, but they be sent? As it is written, How fair be the feet of them that preach peace, of them that preach good things [As it is written, How fair the feet of men evangelizing peace, of preaching good things].
16 But not all the people of Israel accepted the good news. Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?"(Isaiah 53:1)
16 But not all men obey to the gospel [But not all obey to the gospel]. For Esaias saith, Lord, who believed to our hearing?
17 So faith comes from hearing the message. And the message that is heard is the word of Christ.
17 Therefore faith is of hearing [Therefore faith by hearing], but hearing by the word of Christ.
18 But I ask, "Didn't the people of Israel hear?" Of course they did. It is written, "Their voice has gone out into the whole earth. Their words have gone out from one end of the world to the other." (Psalm 19:4)
18 But I say, Whether they heard not? Yes, soothly the sound of them went out into all the earth, and their words into the ends of the world.
19 Again I ask, "Didn't Israel understand?" First, Moses says, "I will use people who are not a nation to make you jealous. I will use a nation that has no understanding to make you angry." (Deuteronomy 32:21)
19 But I say, Whether Israel knew not? First Moses saith, I shall lead you to envy, that ye be no folk; that ye be an unwise folk, I shall send you into wrath [First Moses saith, I shall lead you to envy, into not a folk; into an unwise folk, I shall send you into wrath].
20 Then Isaiah boldly speaks about what God says. God said, "I was found by those who were not trying to find me. I made myself known to those who were not asking for me." (Isaiah 65:1)
20 And Esaias is bold, and saith, I am found of men that seek me not; openly I appeared to them, that asked not me.
21 But Isaiah also speaks about what God says concerning Israel. God said, "All day long I have held out my hands. I have held them out to a stubborn people who do not obey me." (Isaiah 65:2)
21 But to Israel he saith, All day I stretched out mine hands to a people that believed not, but gainsaid me. [Forsooth to Israel, he saith, All day I stretched out my hands to a people not believing to me, but again-saying to me.]
