1 Those who belong to Christ Jesus are no longer under God's sentence.

Therefore now nothing of condemnation is to them that be in Christ Jesus, which wander not after the flesh.
2 I am now controlled by the law of the Holy Spirit. That law gives me life because of what Christ Jesus has done. It has set me free from the law of sin that brings death.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath delivered me from the law of sin, and of death [hath delivered me from the law of sin, and death].
3 The written law was made weak by our sinful nature. But God did what the written law could not do. He made his Son to be like those who have a sinful nature. He sent him to be an offering for sin. In that way, he judged sin in his Son's human body.

For that that was impossible to the law, in what thing it was frail by flesh, God sent his Son into the likeness of flesh of sin [in that thing it was sick, or frail, by flesh, God sending his Son into the likeness of flesh of sin], and of sin condemned sin in flesh;
4 Now we can do everything the law requires. Our sinful nature no longer controls the way we live. The Holy Spirit now controls the way we live.

that the justifying of the law were fulfilled in us, that go not after the flesh [that not after the flesh we wander], but after the Spirit.
5 Don't live under the control of your sinful nature. If you do, you will think about what your sinful nature wants. Live under the control of the Holy Spirit. If you do, you will think about what the Spirit wants.

For they that be after the flesh, understand those things [savour those things] that be of the flesh; but they that be after the Spirit, feel those things that be of the Spirit.
6 The way a sinful person thinks leads to death. But the mind controlled by the Spirit brings life and peace.

For the prudence of flesh is death; but the prudence of Spirit is life and peace.
7 The sinful mind is at war with God. It does not obey God's law. It can't.

For the wisdom of the flesh is enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, for neither it may [soothly neither it may be subject to the law].
8 Those who are controlled by their sinful nature can't please God.

And they that be in flesh, be not able to please to God. [For they that be in flesh, may not please to God.]
9 But your sinful nature does not control you. The Holy Spirit controls you. The Spirit of God lives in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ.

But ye be not in flesh, but in Spirit; if nevertheless the Spirit of God dwelleth in you [dwell in you]. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, this is not his.
10 Christ lives in you. So your body is dead because of sin. But your spirit is alive because you have been made right with God.

For if Christ is in you, the body is dead for sin [the body is dead from sin], but the Spirit liveth for justifying.
11 The Spirit of the One who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you. So the God who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your bodies, which are going to die. He will do this by the power of his Spirit, who lives in you.

And if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus Christ from death dwelleth in you, he that raised Jesus Christ from death, shall quicken also your deadly bodies, for the Spirit of him that dwelleth in you. [+For if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus Christ from dead dwell in you, he that raised Jesus Christ from dead, shall quicken also your deadly bodies, for the Spirit of him dwelling in you.]
12 Brothers and sisters, we have a duty. Our duty is not to live under the control of our sinful nature.

Therefore, brethren, we be debtors, not to the flesh, that we live after the flesh.
13 If you live under the control of your sinful nature, you will die. But by the power of the Holy Spirit you can put to death the sins your body commits. Then you will live.

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye by the Spirit [shall] slay the deeds of the flesh, ye shall live.
14 Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

For whoever be led by the Spirit of God, these be the sons of God.
15 You didn't receive a spirit that makes you a slave to fear once again. Instead you received the Holy Spirit, who makes you God's child. By the Spirit's power we call God ""Abba."" "Abba" means Father.

For ye have not taken again the spirit of servage in dread, but ye have taken the Spirit of adoption of sons, in which we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit himself joins with our spirits. Together they give witness that we are God's children.

And that Spirit yieldeth witnessing to our spirit, that we be the sons of God;
17 As his children, we will receive all that he has for us. We will share what Christ receives. But we must share in his sufferings if we want to share in his glory.

if sons, and heirs, heirs forsooth of God, and heirs together with Christ [forsooth if sons, and heirs, soothly heirs of God, truly even-heirs of Christ]; if nevertheless we suffer together, that also we be glorified together.
18 What we are suffering now is nothing compared with the glory that will be shown in us.

And I deem, that the passions of this time be not worthy to the glory to coming [be not even worthy to the glory to come], that shall be showed in us.
19 Everything God created looks forward to the time when his children will appear in their full and final glory.

For the abiding of creature abideth the showing of the sons of God.
20 The created world was bound to fail. But that was not the result of its own choice. It was planned that way by the One who made it. God planned

But the creature is subject to vanity, not willing(ly), but for him that made it subject in hope; [Soothly the creature is subject to vanity, not willing, but for him that subjected it in hope;]
21 to set the created world free. He didn't want it to rot away completely. Instead, he wanted it to have the same glorious freedom that his children have.

for that creature [for and that creature] shall be delivered from servage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the sons of God.
22 We know that all that God created has been groaning. It is in pain as if it were giving birth to a child. The created world continues to groan even now.

And we know, that each creature sorroweth, and travaileth with pain till yet.
23 And that's not all. We have the Holy Spirit as the promise of future blessing. But we also groan inside ourselves as we look forward to the time when God will adopt us as full members of his family. Then he will give us everything he has for us. He will raise our bodies and give glory to them.

And not only it, but also we us selves [but and we ourselves], that have the first fruits of the Spirit, and we us selves sorrow within us [and we ourselves sorrow within us] for the adoption of God's sons, abiding the again-buying of our body.
24 That's the hope we had when we were saved. But hope that can be seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?

But by hope we be made safe. For hope that is seen, is not hope; for who hopeth that thing, that he seeth? [Soothly by hope we be made safe. Forsooth the hope that is seen, is not hope; for why what hopeth a man that thing, that he seeth?]
25 We hope for what we don't have yet. So we are patient as we wait for it.

And if we hope that thing that we see not, we abide by patience.
26 In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us when we are weak. We don't know what we should pray for. But the Spirit himself prays for us. He prays with groans too deep for words.

And also the Spirit helpeth our infirmity; for what we shall pray, as it behooveth, we know not, but that Spirit asketh for us with sorrowings, that may not be told out [but that Spirit asketh for us with sorrowings, that be not able to be told out].
27 God, who looks into our hearts, knows the mind of the Spirit. And the Spirit prays for God's people just as God wants him to pray.

For he that seeketh the hearts, knoweth what the Spirit desireth, for by God [for after God, that is, at God's will,] he asketh for holy men.
28 We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. He appointed them to be saved in keeping with his purpose.

And we know, that to men that love God, all things work together into good, to them that after purpose be called saints.
29 God planned that those he had chosen would become like his Son. In that way, Christ will be the first and most honored among many brothers.

For those that he knew before [For why and whom he knew before], he before-ordained by grace to be made like to the image of his Son, that he be the first begotten among many brethren.
30 And those God has planned for, he has also appointed to be saved. Those he has appointed, he has made right with himself. To those he has made right with himself, he has given his glory.

And those that he before-ordained to bless, them he called; and whom he called, them he justified; and whom he justified, them he glorified. [Soothly whom he before-ordained to bless, and them he called; and whom he called, and them he justified; soothly whom he justified, and them he glorified.]
31 What should we say then? Since God is on our side, who can be against us?

What then shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who is against us?
32 God did not spare his own Son. He gave him up for us all. Then won't he also freely give us everything else?

Which also spared not his own Son, but betook him for us all, how also gave he not to us all things with him?
33 Who can bring any charge against God's chosen ones? God makes us right with himself.

Who shall accuse against the chosen men of God? It is God that justifieth,
34 Who can sentence us to death? Christ Jesus is at the right hand of God and is also praying for us. He died. More than that, he was raised to life.

who is it that condemneth? It is Jesus Christ that was dead, yea, the which rose again, the which is on the right half of God, and the which prayeth for us [the which and rose again, the which is on the right half of God, the which prayeth for us].
35 Who can separate us from Christ's love? Can trouble or hard times or harm or hunger? Can nakedness or danger or war?

Who then shall separate us [Who therefore shall part us] from the charity of Christ? tribulation, or anguish, or hunger, or nakedness, or persecution, or peril, or sword?
36 It is written, "Because of you, we face death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be killed." (Psalm 44:22)

As it is written, For we be slain all day for thee; we be guessed as sheep of slaughter [we be guessed as sheep to slaughter].
37 No! In all these things we will do even more than win! We owe it all to Christ, who has loved us.

But in all these things we overcome, for him that loved us.
38 I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God's love. Not even angels or demons, the present or the future, or any powers can do that.

But I am certain [Soothly I am certain], that neither death, neither life, neither angels, neither principats, neither virtues, neither present things, neither things to coming [neither things to come],
39 Not even the highest places or the lowest, or anything else in all creation can do that. Nothing at all can ever separate us from God's love because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done.

neither strength, neither height, neither deepness, neither any other creature may separate us [shall be able to part us] from the charity of God, that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
