1 Cantico di Maalot. QUELLI che si confidano nel Signore, Son come il monte di Sion, il quale non può essere smosso, E che dimora in perpetuo.

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which can never be shaken, never be moved.
2 Come Gerusalemme è intorniata di monti, Così il Signore è intorno al suo popolo, Da ora in eterno.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, now and forever.
3 Perciocchè la verga d’empietà non riposerà in perpetuo Sopra la sorte de’ giusti; Acciocchè talora i giusti non mettano le lor mani ad alcuna iniquità.

The wicked will not always rule over the land of the righteous; if they did, the righteous themselves might do evil.
4 O Signore, fa’ bene a’ buoni, Ed a quelli che son diritti ne’ lor cuori.

Lord, do good to those who are good, to those who obey your commands.
5 Ma, quant’è a quelli che deviano dietro alle loro obliquità, Scaccili il Signore con gli operatori d’iniquità. Pace sia sopra Israele.

But when you punish the wicked, punish also those who abandon your ways. Peace be with Israel!
