1 Salmo di Davide. O SIGNORE, io t’invoco; affrettati a rispondermi; Porgi l’orecchio alla mia voce, mentre io grido a te.

I call to you, Lord; help me now! Listen to me when I call to you.
2 La mia orazione sia addirizzata al tuo cospetto, come l’incenso; E il mio alzar delle mani come l’offerta della sera.

Receive my prayer as incense, my uplifted hands as an evening sacrifice.
3 O Signore, poni guardia alla mia bocca; Guarda l’uscio delle mie labbra.

Lord, place a guard at my mouth, a sentry at the door of my lips.
4 Non lasciar che il mio cuore s’inchini a cosa alcuna malvagia, Per darmi a commettere opere empie, Con gli uomini operatori d’iniquità; E fa’ che io non mangi delle lor delizie.

Keep me from wanting to do wrong and from joining evil people in their wickedness. May I never take part in their feasts.
5 Pestimi pure il giusto, ciò mi sarà benignità; E riprendami, ciò mi sarà olio eccellente, Il qual non mi fiaccherà il capo; Anzi più ch’egli lo farà, più pregherò per loro nelle loro avversità.

Good people may punish me and rebuke me in kindness, but I will never accept honor from evil people, because I am always praying against their evil deeds.
6 I rettori di costoro furono abbandonati dentro alla roccia, E pure udirono le mie parole ch’erano piacevoli.

When their rulers are thrown down from rocky cliffs, the people will admit that my words were true.
7 Le nostre ossa sono sparse su la bocca del sepolcro, Come quando altri spezza, e schianta legne per terra.

Like wood that is split and chopped into bits, so their bones are scattered at the edge of the grave.
8 Perciocchè, o Signore Iddio, gli occhi miei sono intenti a te, Ed io spero in te; non privar di riparo l’anima mia.

But I keep trusting in you, my Sovereign Lord. I seek your protection; don't let me die!
9 Guardami dal laccio che mi è stato teso, Dalle trappole degli operatori d’iniquità.

Protect me from the traps they have set for me, from the snares of those evildoers.
10 Caggiano gli empi nelle lor reti tutti quanti, Mentre io passerò oltre.

May the wicked fall into their own traps while I go by unharmed.
