1 Siggaion di Davide, il quale egli canto’ al Signore, sopra le parole di Cus Beniaminita SIGNORE Iddio mio, io mi confido in te; Salvami da tutti quelli che mi perseguitano, e riscuotimi;

2 Che talora il mio nemico non rapisca l’anima mia come un leone; E non la laceri, senza che vi sia alcuno che mi riscuota.

3 Signore Iddio mio, se ho fatto questo, Se vi è perversità nelle mie mani;

4 Se ho renduto mal per bene a chi viveva in pace meco Io, che ho riscosso colui che mi era nemico senza cagione,

5 Perseguiti pure il nemico l’anima mia, e l’aggiunga, E calpesti la vita mia, mettendola per terra; E stanzi la mia gloria nella polvere. Sela.

6 Levati, Signore, nell’ira tua; Innalzati contro a’ furori de’ miei nemici, E destati in mio favore; tu hai ordinato il giudicio.

7 E circonditi la raunanza de’ popoli; E torna poi in luogo elevato di sopra ad essa.

8 Il Signore giudicherà i popoli; Signore, giudicami; Giudica di me secondo la mia giustizia, e la mia integrità.

9 Deh! venga meno la malvagità de’ malvagi, E stabilisci l’uomo giusto; Conciossiachè tu sii l’Iddio giusto, che provi i cuori e le reni.

10 Il mio scudo è in Dio, Che salva quelli che son diritti di cuore.

11 Iddio è giusto giudice, E un Dio che si adira ogni giorno.

12 Se il mio nemico non si converte, egli aguzzerà la sua spada; Già ha teso l’arco suo, e l’ha preparato.

13 Egli ha apparecchiate arme mortali; Egli adopererà le sue saette contro agli ardenti persecutori.

14 Ecco, il mio nemico partorisce iniquità; Egli ha conceputo affanno, e partorirà inganno.

15 Egli ha cavata una fossa, e l’ha affondata; Ma egli stesso è caduto nella fossa ch’egli ha fatta.

16 Il travaglio ch’egli dà altrui gli ritornerà sopra la testa, E la sua violenza gli scenderà sopra la sommità del capo.

17 Io loderò il Signore, secondo la sua giustizia; E salmeggerò il Nome del Signore Altissimo.

Good News Translation GNT

1 O Lord, my God, I come to you for protection; rescue me and save me from all who pursue me,

2 or else like a lion they will carry me off where no one can save me, and there they will tear me to pieces.

3 O Lord, my God, if I have wronged anyone, if I have betrayed a friend or without cause done violence to my enemy - if I have done any of these things -

5 then let my enemies pursue me and catch me, let them cut me down and kill me and leave me lifeless on the ground!

6 Rise in your anger, O Lord! Stand up against the fury of my enemies; rouse yourself and help me! Justice is what you demand,

7 so bring together all the peoples around you, and rule over them from above.

8 You are the judge of all people. Judge in my favor, O Lord; you know that I am innocent.

9 You are a righteous God and judge our thoughts and desires. Stop the wickedness of evildoers and reward those who are good.

10 God is my protector; he saves those who obey him.

11 God is a righteous judge and always condemns the wicked.

12 If they do not change their ways, God will sharpen his sword. He bends his bow and makes it ready;

13 he takes up his deadly weapons and aims his burning arrows.

14 See how wicked people think up evil; they plan trouble and practice deception.

15 But in the traps they set for others, they themselves get caught.

16 So they are punished by their own evil and are hurt by their own violence.

17 I thank the Lord for his justice; I sing praises to the Lord, the Most High.
