1 Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado? ¿Por qué estás tan lejos de mi salvación y de las palabras de mi clamor?

2 Dios mío, de día clamo y no respondes; y de noche, pero no hay para mí reposo.

3 Sin embargo, tú eres santo, que habitas entre las alabanzas de Israel.

4 En ti confiaron nuestros padres; confiaron, y tú los libraste.

5 A ti clamaron, y fueron librados; en ti confiaron, y no fueron decepcionados.

6 Pero yo soy gusano, y no hombre; oprobio de los hombres, y despreciado del pueblo.

7 Todos los que me ven, de mí se burlan; hacen muecascon los labios, menean la cabeza, diciendo:

8 Que se encomiende al SEÑOR; que El lo libre, que El lo rescate, puesto que en El se deleita.

9 Porque tú me sacaste del seno materno; me hiciste confiar desde los pechos de mi madre.

10 A ti fui entregado desde mi nacimiento; desde el vientre de mi madre tú eres mi Dios.

11 No estés lejos de mí, porque la angustia está cerca, pues no hay quien ayude.

12 Muchos toros me han rodeado; toros fuertes de Basán me han cercado.

13 Avidos abren su boca contra mí, como un león rapaz y rugiente.

14 Soy derramado como agua, y todos mis huesos están descoyuntados; mi corazón es como cera; se derrite en medio de mis entrañas.

15 Como un tiesto se ha secado mi vigor, y la lengua se me pega al paladar, y me has puesto en el polvo de la muerte.

16 Porque perros me han rodeado; me ha cercado cuadrilla de malhechores; me horadaron las manos y los pies.

17 Puedo contar todos mis huesos. Ellos me miran, me observan;

18 reparten mis vestidos entre sí, y sobre mi ropa echan suertes.

19 Pero tú, oh SEÑOR, no estés lejos; fuerza mía, apresúrate a socorrerme.

20 Libra mi alma de la espada, mi única vida de las garras del perro.

21 Sálvame de la boca del león y de los cuernos de los búfalos; respóndeme.

22 Hablaré de tu nombre a mis hermanos; en medio de la congregación te alabaré.

23 Los que teméis al SEÑOR, alabadle; descendencia toda de Jacob, glorificadle, temedle, descendencia toda de Israel.

24 Porque El no ha despreciado ni aborrecido la aflicción del angustiado, ni le ha escondido su rostro; sino que cuando clamó al SEÑOR, lo escuchó.

25 De ti viene mi alabanza en la gran congregación; mis votos cumpliré delante de los que le temen.

26 Los pobres comerán y se saciarán; los que buscan al SEÑOR, le alabarán. ¡Viva vuestro corazón para siempre!

27 Todos los términos de la tierra se acordarán y se volverán al SEÑOR, y todas las familias de las naciones adorarán delante de ti.

28 Porque del SEÑOR es el reino, y El gobierna las naciones.

29 Todos los grandes de la tierra comerán y adorarán; se postrarán ante El todos los que descienden al polvo, aun aquel que no puede conservar viva su alma.

30 La posteridad le servirá; esto se dirá del Señor hasta la generación venidera.

31 Vendrán y anunciarán su justicia; a un pueblo por nacer, anunciarán que El ha hecho esto.

1 God, God . . . my God! Why did you dump me miles from nowhere?

2 Doubled up with pain, I call to God all the day long. No answer. Nothing. I keep at it all night, tossing and turning.

3 And you! Are you indifferent, above it all, leaning back on the cushions of Israel's praise?

4 We know you were there for our parents:

5 they cried for your help and you gave it; they trusted and lived a good life.

6 And here I am, a nothing - an earthworm, something to step on, to squash.

7 Everyone pokes fun at me; they make faces at me, they shake their heads:

8 "Let's see how God handles this one; since God likes him so much, let him help him!"

9 And to think you were midwife at my birth, setting me at my mother's breasts!

10 When I left the womb you cradled me; since the moment of birth you've been my God.

11 Then you moved far away and trouble moved in next-door. I need a neighbor.

12 Herds of bulls come at me, the raging bulls stampede,

13 Horns lowered, nostrils flaring, like a herd of buffalo on the move.

14 I'm a bucket kicked over and spilled, every joint in my body has been pulled apart. My heart is a blob of melted wax in my gut.

15 I'm dry as a bone, my tongue black and swollen. They have laid me out for burial in the dirt.

16 Now packs of wild dogs come at me; thugs gang up on me. They pin me down hand and foot,

17 and lock me in a cage - a bag Of bones in a cage, stared at by every passerby.

18 They take my wallet and the shirt off my back, and then throw dice for my clothes.

19 You, God - don't put off my rescue! Hurry and help me!

20 Don't let them cut my throat; don't let those mongrels devour me.

21 If you don't show up soon, I'm done for - gored by the bulls, meat for the lions.

22 Here's the story I'll tell my friends when they come to worship, and punctuate it with Hallelujahs:

23 Shout Hallelujah, you God-worshipers; give glory, you sons of Jacob; adore him, you daughters of Israel.

24 He has never let you down, never looked the other way when you were being kicked around. He has never wandered off to do his own thing; he has been right there, listening.

25 Here in this great gathering for worship I have discovered this praise-life. And I'll do what I promised right here in front of the God-worshipers.

26 Down-and-outers sit at God's table and eat their fill. Everyone on the hunt for God is here, praising him. "Live it up, from head to toe. Don't ever quit!"

27 From the four corners of the earth people are coming to their senses, are running back to God. Long-lost families are falling on their faces before him.

28 God has taken charge; from now on he has the last word.

29 All the power-mongers are before him - worshiping! All the poor and powerless, too - worshiping! Along with those who never got it together - worshiping!

30 Our children and their children will get in on this As the word is passed along from parent to child.

31 Babies not yet conceived will hear the good news - that God does what he says.
