9 Perché hanno abbandonato l’Eterno, l’Iddio loro, il quale trasse i loro padri dal paese d’Egitto, si sono invaghiti d’altri dèi, si sono prostrati dinanzi a loro e li hanno serviti; ecco perché l’Eterno ha fatto venire tutti questi mali su loro".

1 Kings 9:9

And they shall answer
Who were left in the land when others were carried captive, as were some by Nebuchadnezzar, and who were capable of making the following answer:

because they forsook the Lord;
the worship of the Lord their God, as the Targum:

who brought forth their fathers out of the land Egypt;
which is observed as an aggravation of their sin:

and have taken hold upon other gods:
the gods of the people, as the Targum; of the Gentiles, who knew not the true God:

and have worshipped them, and served them:
even idols of gold and silver, wood and stone; an instance of judicial blindness they were left unto, who had been favoured with a revelation from God:

therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil;
their idolatry was the cause of it, than which nothing is more provoking to God.

7 io sterminerò Israele d’in sulla faccia del paese che gli ho dato, rigetterò dal mio cospetto la casa che ho consacrata al mio nome, e Israele sarà la favola e lo zimbello di tutti i popoli.

8 E questa casa, per quanto sia così in alto, sarà desolata; e chiunque le passerà vicino rimarrà stupefatto e si metterà a fischiare; e si dirà: Perché l’Eterno ha egli trattato in tal guisa questo paese e questa casa? e si risponderà:

9 Perché hanno abbandonato l’Eterno, l’Iddio loro, il quale trasse i loro padri dal paese d’Egitto, si sono invaghiti d’altri dèi, si sono prostrati dinanzi a loro e li hanno serviti; ecco perché l’Eterno ha fatto venire tutti questi mali su loro".

10 Or avvenne che, passati i venti anni nei quali Salomone costruì le due case, la casa dell’Eterno e la casa del re,

11 siccome Hiram, re di Tiro, avea fornito a Salomone legname di cedro e di cipresso, e oro, a piacere di lui, il re Salomone diede a Hiram venti città nel paese di Galilea.
