16 Ma nelle città di questi popoli che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti da come eredità, non conserverai in vita nulla che respiri;

Deuteronomy 20:16

But of the cities of those people, which the Lord thy God doth
give thee for an inheritance
The cities of the seven nations, six of which are mentioned by name in the next verse:

thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth;
the reason of this severity was because of their wickedness, the capital crimes and gross abominations they were guilty of, and for which they deserved to die; and on account whereof they were reserved to this destruction, when the measure of their iniquities was full, such as idolatry, incest, witchcraft, soothsaying, necromancy see ( Leviticus 18:3 Leviticus 18:24 Leviticus 18:25 Leviticus 18:27 ) ( 20:2-23 ) ( Deuteronomy 18:9-12 ) .

14 ma le donne, i bambini, il bestiame e tutto ciò che sarà nella città, tutto quanto il suo bottino, te li prenderai come tua preda; e mangerai il bottino de’ tuoi nemici, che l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, t’avrà dato.

15 Così farai per tutte le città che sono molto lontane da te, e che non sono città di queste nazioni.

16 Ma nelle città di questi popoli che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti da come eredità, non conserverai in vita nulla che respiri;

17 ma voterai a completo sterminio gli Hittei, gli Amorei, i Cananei, i Ferezei, gli Hivvei e i Gebusei, come l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti ha comandato di fare;

18 affinché essi non v’insegnino a imitare tutte le abominazioni che fanno per i loro dèi, e voi non pecchiate contro l’Eterno, ch’è il vostro Dio.
