3 Ascolta dunque, Israele, e abbi cura di metterli in pratica, affinché tu sii felice e moltiplichiate grandemente nel paese ove scorre il latte e il miele, come l’Eterno, l’Iddio de’ tuoi padri, ti ha detto.

Deuteronomy 6:3

Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it
Or them, the commandments given them:

that it may be well with thee;
in body and estate:

and that ye may increase mightily;
not only in wealth and riches, but chiefly in numbers:

as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee;
a promise of increase of numbers was frequently made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; as that their seed should be as the stars of heaven, and as the dust of the earth, and the sand on the sea shore, innumerable; see ( Genesis 15:5 ) ( 22:17 ) ( 25:4 ) ( 28:14 ) and this especially

in the land that floweth with milk and honey;
a very common periphrasis of the land of Canaan, because of the plenty of good things in it; see ( Exodus 3:8 ) .

1 Or questi sono i comandamenti, le leggi e le prescrizioni che l’Eterno, il vostro Dio, ha ordinato d’insegnarvi, perché li mettiate in pratica nel paese nel quale state per passare per prenderne possesso;

2 affinché tu tema l’Iddio tuo, l’Eterno, osservando, tutti i giorni della tua vita, tu, il tuo figliuolo e il figliuolo del tuo figliuolo, tutte le sue leggi e tutti i suoi comandamenti che io ti do, e affinché i tuoi giorni siano prolungati.

3 Ascolta dunque, Israele, e abbi cura di metterli in pratica, affinché tu sii felice e moltiplichiate grandemente nel paese ove scorre il latte e il miele, come l’Eterno, l’Iddio de’ tuoi padri, ti ha detto.

4 Ascolta, Israele: l’Eterno, l’Iddio nostro, è l’unico Eterno.

5 Tu amerai dunque l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, con tutto il cuore, con tutta l’anima tua e con tutte le tue forze.
