31 E io punirò lui, la sua progenie e i suoi servitori della loro iniquità, e farò venire su loro, sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme e sugli uomini di Giuda tutto il male che ho pronunziato contro di loro, senza ch’essi abbian dato ascolto".

Jeremiah 36:31

And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their
iniquity
In cutting the roll pieces, and burning it, as Abarbinel interprets it; which either was done by himself, or by his order, and with his connivance; and at which perhaps his sons were present, and expressed a pleasure in it; an& his servants that stood by assented to it, excepting three; nor were they afraid of the judgments of God for it, nor in the least shocked at it, ( Jeremiah 36:24 Jeremiah 36:25 ) ; though this may be understood of all their iniquities they had been guilty of, the singular being put for the plural: and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and
upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against
them;
the sword, famine, and pestilence; the destruction of their land, city, and temple; and their captivity in Babylon: but they hearkened not;
to what was said to them, neither in the first nor in the second roll.

29 E riguardo a Joiakim, re di Giuda, tu dirai: Così parla l’Eterno: Tu hai bruciato quel rotolo, dicendo: Perché hai scritto in esso che il re di Babilonia verrà certamente e distruggerà questo paese e farà sì che non vi sarà più né uomo né bestia?

30 Perciò così parla l’Eterno riguardo a Joiakim re di Giuda: Egli non avrà alcuno che segga sul trono di Davide, e il suo cadavere sarà gettato fuori, esposto al caldo del giorno e al gelo della notte.

31 E io punirò lui, la sua progenie e i suoi servitori della loro iniquità, e farò venire su loro, sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme e sugli uomini di Giuda tutto il male che ho pronunziato contro di loro, senza ch’essi abbian dato ascolto".

32 E Geremia prese un altro rotolo e lo diede a Baruc, figliuolo di Neria, segretario, il quale vi scrisse, a dettatura di Geremia, tutte le parole del libro che Joiakim, re di Giuda, avea bruciato nel fuoco; e vi furono aggiunte molte altre parole simili a quelle.
