Jeremiah 42:16

Then it shall come to pass
That the various judgments following should come upon them: [that] the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land
of Egypt;
that is, the sword; of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, which they feared they should fall by in Judea; this should come after them in Egypt, and there overtake them, as it did; Egypt being destroyed by the king of Babylon, as it was foretold it should, ( Jeremiah 46:25 Jeremiah 46:26 ) ; and the famine, whereof you were afraid, shalt follow close after you
there in Egypt;
the famine they were afraid would come upon them in Judea, should pursue them, overtake them, seize on them, and cleave unto them, in Egypt; thus the evils they thought to escape, by moving from one place, should befall them in another; there is no fleeing from the presence, power, and hand of God: and there ye shall die;
either by the sword, or by famine, or by pestilence, as in the ( Jeremiah 42:17 ) .

14 No, andremo nel paese d’Egitto, dove non vedremo la guerra, non udremo suon di tromba, e dove non avrem più fame di pane, e quivi dimoreremo,

15 ebbene, ascoltate allora la parola dell’Eterno, o superstiti di Giuda! Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Se siete decisi a recarvi in Egitto, e se andate a dimorarvi,

16 la spada che temete vi raggiungerà là, nel paese d’Egitto, e la fame che paventate vi starà alle calcagna là in Egitto, e quivi morrete.

17 Tutti quelli che avranno deciso di andare in Egitto per dimorarvi, vi morranno di spada, di fame o di peste; nessun di loro scamperà, sfuggirà al male ch’io farò venire su loro.

18 Poiché così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele: Come la mia ira e il mio furore si son riversati sugli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così il mio furore si riverserà su voi, quando sarete entrati in Egitto; e sarete abbandonati alla esecrazione, alla desolazione, alla maledizione e all’obbrobrio, e non vedrete mai più questo luogo.
