Jeremiah 48:42

And Moab shall be destroyed from [being] a people
For some time, not always; since the captivity of Moab is promised to be returned, ( Jeremiah 48:47 ) ; or from being such a people as they had been, enjoying so much ease, wealth, power, and prosperity. Abarbinel takes it to be a comparative, and renders it, "more than a people"; that is, shall be destroyed more than any other people; but the former sense is best; because he hath magnified [himself] against the Lord;
the Targum is, against the people of the Lord; this is the cause of his destruction; (See Gill on Jeremiah 48:26).

40 Poiché così parla l’Eterno: Ecco, il nemico fende l’aria come l’aquila, spiega le sue ali verso Moab.
41 Kerioth è presa, le fortezze sono occupate, e il cuore dei prodi di Moab, in quel giorno, è come il cuore d’una donna in doglie di parto.
42 Moab sarà distrutto, non sarà più popolo, perché s’è innalzato contro l’Eterno.
43 Spavento, fossa, laccio ti soprastanno, o abitante di Moab! dice l’Eterno.
44 Chi fugge dinanzi allo spavento, cade nella fossa; chi risale dalla fossa, riman preso ai laccio; perché io fo venire su lui, su Moab, l’anno in cui dovrà render conto, dice l’Eterno.
