31 Eccomi a te, o arrogante, dice il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti; poiché il tuo giorno è giunto, il tempo ch’io ti visiterò.

Jeremiah 50:31

Behold, I [am] against thee, [O thou] most proud, saith the
Lord God of hosts
Or, O "pride", or O "man of pride" ^F9; intolerably proud, superlatively so, as the kings of Babylon were, as Nebuchadnezzar, and Belshazzar likewise, the present king; so the Targum interprets it of a king,

``behold, I send my fury against thee, O wicked king;''

and is applicable enough to the man of sin, that monster of pride, that exalts himself above all that is called God, or is worshipped, ( 2 Thessalonians 2:4 ) ; and therefore it is no wonder that the Lord is against him, who resists all that are proud; and woe to him and them that he is against: for the day is come, the time [that] I will visit thee;
in a way of vindictive wrath and justice, for pride and other this; see ( Jeremiah 50:27 ) .

29 Convocate contro Babilonia gli arcieri, tutti quelli che tirano d’arco; accampatevi contro a lei d’ogn’intorno, nessuno ne scampi; rendetele secondo le sue opere, fate interamente a lei com’ella ha fatto; poich’ella è stata arrogante contro l’Eterno, contro il Santo d’Israele.

30 Perciò i suoi giovani cadranno nelle sue piazze, e tutti i suoi uomini di guerra periranno in quel giorno, dice l’Eterno.

31 Eccomi a te, o arrogante, dice il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti; poiché il tuo giorno è giunto, il tempo ch’io ti visiterò.

32 L’arrogante vacillerà, cadrà, e non vi sarà chi lo rialzi; e io appiccherò il fuoco alle sue città, ed esso divorerà tutti i suoi dintorni.

33 Così parla l’Eterno degli eserciti: I figliuoli d’Israele e i figliuoli di Giuda sono oppressi insieme; tutti quelli che li han menati in cattività li tengono, e rifiutano di lasciarli andare.
