Nehemiah 2:4

Then the king said unto me, for what dost thou make request?
&c.] The king supposed that there was a meaning in those looks and words of his, that he had a favour to ask of him, and therefore encourages him to it; or the king of himself moved this, as being desirous of doing anything for him he would propose, to make him easy:

so I prayed to the God of heaven;
secretly, in an ejaculatory way, giving him thanks for thus disposing the king's heart towards him, and entreating he might be directed what to ask, and in a proper manner, and that he might succeed.

2 E il re mi disse: "Perché hai l’aspetto triste? eppure non sei malato; non può esser altro che un’afflizione del cuore". Allora io ebbi grandissima paura,
3 e dissi al re: "Viva il re in eterno! Come potrebbe il mio aspetto non esser triste quando la città dove sono i sepolcri de’ miei padri è distrutta e le sue porte son consumate dal fuoco?"
4 E il re mi disse: "Che cosa domandi?" Allora io pregai l’Iddio del cielo;
5 poi risposi al re: "Se così piace al re e il tuo servo ha incontrato favore agli occhi tuoi, mandami in Giudea, nella città dove sono i sepolcri de’ miei padri, perché io la riedifichi".
6 E il re, che avea la regina seduta allato, mi disse: "Quanto durerà il tuo viaggio? e quando ritornerai?" La cosa piacque al re, ei mi lasciò andare, e io gli fissai un termine di tempo.
