Psalms 72:19

19 Blessed be his glorious name for ever; may his glory fill the whole earth! Amen and Amen!

Psalms 72:19 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 72:19

And blessed be his glorious name for ever
Every name of Christ is glorious in itself, and precious to his people; "like ointment poured forth", as his name Messiah, to which the allusion is in ( Song of Solomon 1:3 ) ; his name Immanuel, God with us, ( Isaiah 7:14 ) ( Matthew 1:23 ) ; Jehovah our righteousness, ( Jeremiah 23:6 ) ; Jesus a Saviour; as well as what belongs to his royal dignity, King of kings, and Lord of lords; a name above every name that is named in this world, or that to come;

and let the whole earth [be] filled with his glory;
as it will be, when his kingdom shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth; when the little stone cut out without hands shall become a great mountain, and fill the whole earth; when the Gospel shall be spread all over the world; and the earth be filled with the knowledge of Christ, by means of it, as the waters cover the sea; and when all nations shall come and worship before him.

Amen, and Amen;
which word added is expressive of the desires of the psalmist, that all that he had said might come to pass; and of his faith, that so it would be: and it is repeated to show the vehemence of his desires, and the strength of his faith.
