Jeremías 41:1-9

1 Y aconteció en el mes séptimo, que vino Ismael, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la simiente real, y algunos príncipes del rey, y diez hombres con él, a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam en Mizpa; y comieron pan juntos allí en Mizpa.

2 Y se levantó Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que con él estaban , e hirieron a cuchillo a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, matando así a aquel a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto sobre la tierra.

3 Asimismo hirió Ismael a todos los judíos que estaban con él, con Gedalías en Mizpa, y a los soldados caldeos que allí se hallaron.

4 Sucedió además, un día después que mató a Gedalías, cuando nadie lo sabía aún,

5 que venían unos hombres de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria, ochenta hombres, raída la barba, y rotas las ropas, y arañados y traían en sus manos ofrenda y perfume para llevar a la Casa del SEÑOR.

6 Y de Mizpa les salió al encuentro, llorando, Ismael, hijo de Netanías; y aconteció que como los encontró, les dijo: Venid a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam.

7 Y fue que cuando llegaron al medio de la ciudad, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, los degolló, y los echó en medio de un aljibe, él y los varones que estaban con él.

8 Mas entre aquellos fueron hallados diez hombres que dijeron a Ismael: No nos mates; porque tenemos en el campo tesoros de trigos, y cebadas, y aceite, y miel. Y los dejó, y no los mató entre sus hermanos.

9 Y el aljibe en que echó Ismael todos los cuerpos de los varones que hirió por causa de Gedalías, era el mismo que había hecho el rey Asa por causa de Baasa, rey de Israel; lo llenó de muertos Ismael, hijo de Netanías.

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 41

This chapter relates the event of the conspiracy against Gedaliah Johanan and the princes had informed him of, to which he gave no credit; but it proved true. An account is given of the murder of Gedaliah, and of the Jews and Chaldeans with him; and of the perpetrators of it, Jer 41:1-3; and of the chief of them, Ishmael's treacherous dealing with fourscore men that came from several parts to the house of God to offer sacrifice, who all perished by his hands, excepting ten, Jer 41:4-9; and of the rest of the people at Mizpah being carried away, in order to be captives among the Ammonites, Jer 41:10; and of Johanan, and the rest of the captives, hearing of all this, and coming out to fight with Ishmael; upon which the people deserted him, and he fled to the Ammonites, Jer 41:11-15; and of Johanan and the people settling in the way to Egypt, to flee there on occasion, should the Chaldeans fall on them for what was done to the governor, which they feared, Jer 41:16-18.
