Mark 14:2

But they said not on the feast day
The feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread, which was nigh at hand, and would be two days hence, when there would be a great concourse of people from all parts to keep it: and therefore they did not choose to seize him, and put him to death at that time,

lest there should be an uproar of the people;
or among them, lest they should rise in his favour, and rescue him out of their hands; (See Gill on Matthew 26:5).

1 erat autem pascha et azyma post biduum et quaerebant summi sacerdotes et scribae quomodo eum dolo tenerent et occiderent
2 dicebant enim non in die festo ne forte tumultus fieret populi
3 et cum esset Bethaniae in domo Simonis leprosi et recumberet venit mulier habens alabastrum unguenti nardi spicati pretiosi et fracto alabastro effudit super caput eius
4 erant autem quidam indigne ferentes intra semet ipsos et dicentes ut quid perditio ista unguenti facta est
5 poterat enim unguentum istud veniri plus quam trecentis denariis et dari pauperibus et fremebant in eam
